I have found a 94 21 Outrage with a 225 ocean runner Evinrude with 21 hrs. I would like to have twins for the fact that I will be 50-60 miles offshore. I am not interested in speed as much as fuel economy and am thinking about 115 Suzuki 4 strokes or 90 Yamaha 2 strokes, interested to see if anybody is running twins on this hull. I know it is rated for 300 hp but I have a hard time justifying 2 150 v-6 motors on this boat. Thanks Flieman |

You might also want to consider your boat's minimum horsepower requirement. One 90 might get you back from 50 miles out, but if it wasn't enough hp to get up on plane you might be out there for quite a bit longer than you anticipated. See also: |

Flieman- You need in at least 200 hp on the boat. The smart move (depending on hours of use of course) would be to keep the 225 already on the boat-then add a quality kicker. If you wish to sell the Ev 225 please e mail me, could be interested. Thanks David |

I agree with the buy the kicker and retain the 225. You probably won't get the boat on a plane with a single 90 anyway. Plus a small outboard makes a great fuel efficient way to slow troll live bait. Seems like idling in gear with my 150 is always a little too fast. You could probably also find a nice used 15hp for grand or less. If it doesn't work out for you, you still haven't spent that much dinero. If you are going 50 miles off shore you might also want to step up your safety gear a bit. Buy a commercial "over fifty" flare kit. Have a installed Vhf as well as a back up, hand held or better yet another 25watt radio with the power wires ready to go with alligator clips. Also a 406 epirb would be prudent. Where are you doing your boating anyway? |

I fish in Texas out of Corpus Christi,I have owned charter boats and am getting out of the business as we speak. I am in the process of selling a 32 Hatteras that was my personal boat and have sold all the other charter boats. I have recently enjoyed offshore fly fishing and pretty much doing that 100% of the time, so I need a boat that I can fish all the way around and will maneuver well. The Hat is a great boat but is not great for fly fishing. I put it on some sites to see if somebody wanted to trade up from their CC but got no interest. I had bought a 1994 21 Outrage new and loved it but sold it in 95 to buy a 25 Hydrasports which I hated. I have owned 4 Whalers and have loved them all but the 21 rode good in our short seas and was very dry and economical, mine had a single 200 then. I appreciate all the input. Thanks Flieman |

I have driven a 21 Outrage of this vintage with twin OMC 115 2-strokes, and it handled and performed quite well, I would guess about 43 MPH. 150's wil get it up to 50 or better. Interestingly, conventional 2 stroke 150's are probably the same cost as the 4-stroke 115's. If you want to go with 90 2-strokes, I would go with Mercury, the strongest of the 90's, or maybe the new Johnson 90's if you can get them. The twin Yamaha 90's are a little short on cubes and HP for this boat, I would guess. |
