I am looking at purchasing a 1996 18' Outrage is in very good condition. The engine is a 1990 150HP Evinrude V6 VRO. Does anyone have any comments on this configuration and what I might look out for?

An older engine on a much newer boat is never a good sign IMO. It shows that something weird happened.

This might be a stretch but, I fyou can get it for the book value of the hull and trailer with the understanding that you may have to repower, then it may be a great deal. Ther are plenty of late model outboards that would be great for that boat. This way if your engine fails, no problem. The flip side of this theory is that it is USUALLY easier to find a good motor first and then find the hull- but are are talking about Whalers. Just a few things to think about. I owned a 1995 17 Outrage that is an INCREDIBLE machine.

Marshall,

Perhaps you could clarify what boat you are looking at. Whaler did not make an 18' Outrage in 1996, though they made a 17' Outrage and a 19' Outrage. The 18' Outrage did not appear until 2000.

Are you sure you are not talking about the classic Outrage 18? (an entirely different boat, and not what we would call a "Post-Classic")

Sorry - The model was not determined until this morning after great help from Chuck at Whaler Customer Service. It is an Outrage 19 built with the folding Consol and large twin storage lockers foreward. The boat has the extra helmsman cushion with storgage underneath. Extras include Depth Sounder, VHF, Cassette, Autopilot, Trim Tabs, Bimini, BW Cushions, Trolling Motor and Rod Holders. I have placed a deposit subject to sea trials in the next couple of days.

Is it like the boat shown and described on Page 1, Rendezvous section, North Channel 2000 article? If so, see Page 2 also for more information. I did think that 1995 was the last year for that boat.

Check to see if it is an Outrage II or Outrage III. My 1996 says Outrage 19,is an Outrage III,and is 19'8". Runs a 200 HP Yamaha and would not want less. It is a heavy boat .

Yes it is like "Memory" shown in Rendezvous.
My info from BW is that it was right at the end of 1995 production sold as a 1996 model. It is the hull from all the previous 18's not the larger modified hull on the Outrage III.
