Picked up my 170 yesterday. On the drive home I stored the biminy top aft for the two hour drive home. It sustained several large scratches to the gelcoat where the metal rested on the gelcoat. What did I do wrong. Is there a proper way to store this thing so no further damage will be done while trailering?

we have a 03 montauck 17 with a bimini that the BW dealer had made for us. It was not ordered from BW. We have the problem where the stainless frames will come onto contact with the inside of the freeboard when it is layin down. I picked up some large velcro straps from my local marine store and wrap the tubes before I lay it down. This seems to protect the hull and keeps all the pieces together. Did you order your bimini direst from BW? If so how stable is it when it is in the arch position? does it shimmy much side to side when under way in chop?

OK guys here is the answer........
Call Mills and order two struts so that the bimini never lays down. I think I paid a little over $100 for them. When it's folded up it stays over the RPS and out of the way. It also has two release pins so it can be layed down if you store the boat in doors.

A must with the Montauk bimini for the 170. Lets you use the rear quarter seats.

You can get the struts anywhere and if SS is not desired I think they are about $40/pair.
