I go for my sea trial tomorrow. I will likely be purchasing a trailer. It has a 225 EFI Merc. Suggestions on brand and style and size? Thanks for all the help.

It's funny, you are going to buy a boat and I feel excited as well. I guess I remember how jacked up I was when I bought my boat last year. Gook luck. Although I'm no expert, as far as trailers go, the standard stuff applies. It should be a galvanized, duel axle, and bunk. Make sure it has a flush kit for the wheels. Make sure the bow stop is heavy duty as well. I don't think anyone reputable would sell you anything but that. The only other thing I can recommend is to make sure the trailer is a bit overbuilt. These trailers take a beating when you tow. The trailer I have for my 23' outrage (which is probably about 4 or 5 hundred lbs less than a 23' Conquest) is rated for 10,000 pounds. The trailer itself weighs 2000 lbs. In fact, where towing is concerned, you cannot be overbuilt. A 1-ton diesel isn't too much truck for that boat. There are guys here that know a lot more about it than I do. Hopefully they will chime in about brands of trailers because they vary in different parts of the country and I know nothing about New York. There are only two more bits of advice I will offer which you can ignore if you already know. These will come in handy once you start towing. 1. Every time you tow, always make sure the U bolts are seated properly and tight. 2. When the trailer is hooked to your rig and you are jacking up the foot. Do not depend on the cotter pin. Jack the foot up until the pin is pinned against the top. Happy towing.

thanks- yes I'm very excited. Just wish I didn't have three 14 hour days in front of me so I could use before next weekend. Oh well, in two weeks I'll start getting home at 4:15 again so I can do some midweek cruising. |

If you can find one, pick up a copy of "Boat Trader" magazine for the Florida area. There are a bunch of trailer manufacturers who advertise in there with pricing for some nice aluminum trailers. They also have a website "www.traderonline.com" that might be a source for the magazine. If I was going to do it again, it would be a 7500 rated loadmaster aluminum trailer with torsion axles and disk brakes with all stainless bolts. I would set it up like my present drive on trailer with long 2x8" bunks right on either side and along the keel line for 3/4's of the hull length and shorter 1/4 length bunks under the rear chines for side to side support. Hello, I purchased a 97 BW Conquest w/225 merc last year, and put it on a new classic aluminum trailer with SS hardware and disk brakes. I couldn't be happier. Here is the URL http://zinnermarine.com/index.html call and talk to Steve. He set mine up with center and front bunks as well as the outside major bunks. Tell him you want to quote the same package that Paul Gebhardt just got. It trailers like a dream. I have towed with a ford 150 4.6 and 250 6 liter turbo disel. 4.6 v8 is alright only in the flats. TD is the right setup. I run on Lake Ontario and the 1000 islands area in fresh clean water, dive, fish and tour. I am adding electronics this year, if you are in the process, let me know. Great boat.........Paul |

I purchased a loadrite for my 97 conquest 23 last November from Perry at Camp Marine in Pt Pleasant NJ. (biggest Loadrite dealer) I was clear about boat make and brand but he sold me an undersized trailer. I only found out it was undersized when I spent all weekend trying to adjust the trailer and couldn't get it right. He was good about taking the trailer back and I got the trailer designed for the 23 conquest/outrage. I got the boat to sit on the trailer on the bunks but the keel did not touch the keel rollers. I ran into a Loadrite booth at the Atlantic city boat show and the rep said that he wanted to take a look and help if needed (no charge). After two weeks of the reps personal time on the weekends and 4 differnt galvanized bunk attachments we got the trailer adjusted correctly. Bottom line is that Loadrite changed the design of the whaler trailer and the way it comes from the factory will not adjust to the conquest without drilling new adjustment holes or getting differnt size bunk holder plates. The customer service I got from loadrite was outstanding but I sure didn't think it would be that hard getting a trailer to fit my conquest. |
