Whaler Enthusiasts,

Are there any major differences between the 2003 and 2004 Montauks other than price?

Also, there is a new 2003 Montauk we saw equipped with a 90 HP Mercury two stroke saltwater motor. Boat, motor, and trailer can be purchased for under $20,000. The price also includes the cushioned cooler seat, bow cushions, and a bimini top.

Does it make sense to buy a boat with the two stroke motor when for a little bit more money we could get a four stroke motor?

Do you think that the two stroke motor is the reason this boat has not sold or is the dealer high on price?

Nushlie,

I have the 2003 170, I have the 90Hp 4 stroke. and complete package and paid a little over 23000 for it, now as for the 2 stroke, the big difference in my opinion, is that you get common motor. as for the 4 stroke, you do not have to add oil to the gas, the motor is EXTREMELY quite... Does not smoke and actually will conserve fuel by switching to 2 strokes at 1000-1500 Rpm for slow speed idle.. Additionally the 4 stroke comes with a 3 year warranty the 2 stroke only one year. The wave of the future will be the 4 stroke.... it is an incredible easy motor to use and the performance is pretty good for this boat.

only other differance between 2003 and 2004 is 2 stern Cleats on the 2004 and about 4000 dollars more.

the 20000 for the two stroke is a pretty good deal.

Jeff is right, 20k for a well equiped 2 stroke is a good deal. I had to get an 04 with a swing tongue to fit in my garage, first of all. It also has transom support inner whatever material to be able to carry a 60 lb kicker. I am sure the newer 2 strokes are much quiter, gas efficient and cleaner than the old ones, but I just had it with breathing oil at 5 am, I had to get a four stroke! The 04 bimini top althought is not a Mills, but is close and can fold down to the back. Yes I payed 4K more, but it will save me paying storage fees, medical bills from inhaling all that oil! and peace of mind. BW resale has always been the best, so you'll get whatever you payed back. Again it is personal preferences, depending what your needs and wants are. Sam
