Hi-I convinced my husband to remove the red harpoon decal stripe from our 2002 Montauk- which he did- but now we can't get rid of a red dye stain the decal left. He's going nuts (after all it was my suggestion!) Please help with any ideas! I want to take care of this while he's out of town so any tips will be great! Thanks! P.S. We've tried On/Off, 3M Heavy oxidation cleaner wax and baking soda with lemon juice.

Welcome to the forum fredfizzle...

Give acetone a try. It's pretty good at removing things like that.

Thanks for the suggestion. Acetone did not work. Any other ideas? Thanks, JoAnn.

fizzle,

I would try Bar Keeps friend... It is good for removing stains like rust, etc.. Might work in this case too..

I would make a poulstice out of it and let it sit on the stain until almost dry. Then using a wet toothbrush (or ?) scrub it some more... You might have to do this a couple of times..

You can buy Bar Keepers friend in most Super Markets right next to the Comet, Ajax, etc...

Good Luck

I would like to suggest you buy a new original striping and put it on again. This is really the best solution because the red will always shine trough, believe me, it is way inn the gelcoat.

Also this would make your Whaler original and more valuable again.

When fitting new striping, use water with mild soap to position the striping easey. The wetter the better....

Good Luck,

Jorgen,

I've consulted my crystal ball and see a harpoon shaped object in your future... ;)

No malice intended but, why on earth would you want to remove the harpoon striping anyway? That’s what makes a Whaler a Whaler.

All your unsuccessful attempts to get the red out have been punishment for your egregious offenses. Do the right thing and put that stripe back on Missy! :)

YESSSS, I fully agree with that.

Be prowed on owning the Best Boat Ever, and put the decal on again.

To me it sounds incredable and it is something similair to do as Taking Off the Flying Lady Of a Rolls Royce !!

As stated before, use mild soap and water, the wetter the better.
