What would you recommend for raw water washdown? one of the self coiling hoses or one of the flat hoses on a reel?

Most of the flat fabric hose reels need most or all the hose off before you can use them. Nelson has a almost flat plastic hose on a reel that you can use partially rolled but it is still a nuisance to thread it back on the reel if you unwind it all off. Makes self coiling look pretty good although the quality of those varies greatly. The good ones (the ones *not* seen on TV) are likely quite good now. Charlie |

Excuse me; knew something didn't sound right so dragged the reel out to look at it. The flat plastic hose reel is by Melnor, not Nelson. Mostly full flow at any stage of unwind and it has lasted over a year now under high pressure use as the dog wash hose. Wish it was self- coiling though. Charlie |

One of the worst boating purchases I have ever made was a roll flat hose. I bought if for washing the boat down at the launch ramp, and it is a major pain to use. It must be unrolled completely to work, and it tends to kink and pinch very easily. It is also a pain to get back on the roll. For on board use, go with the coiler. For any use, save your money on the flat roll up, they stink! |

Self Coiling is the way to go, just don't go to a marine store to get one or you will get bent over by the price. $29.99 for a 25' white hose. Go to Ace hardware and get the same in green for 10 bucks. |

Marine hoses should be WHITE go for the $ and look like a sailor! Not like a Yahoo weekend warrior. The coiled hoses are a pain in the butt. Hoses were made to be coilied where you want them. the precoiled ones are always at a right angle and not where you want them. they take up less space but awkwardly and hang in an ungainly way. |

duckear, Coiled. I've got two. A blue for salt-water washdown. A white for fresh-water washdown. It's best if they can be stowed in a locker etc. out-of site. |

I went to the marine store and bought a 50 foot blue one with spray handle for $19.99. |

Outrage 93 I can see you come from NY so I can understand the obnoxious comment about us Yahoo weekend warriors. I'll tell that to my buddies this weekend while were cleaning our boatload of goruper and snapper. Some of us do like a bargain when we see one and paying $10-$20 bucks extra for a hose is ridiculous unless you just have to have white. |

I agree with fno. The same coiled hose can be found at Home Depot for around 12 bucks. The marine stores charge way too much. The flat ones are junk. Better to use it as a bouy rope. |

I use the 25' $7 WHITE (with blue stripe) lightweight traditional boat/camper/RV hose that Walmart sells. Lightweight and easy to handle. I hang it under the gunwale in a 12" diameter coil, using a clear plastic, suction cup hook I bought at the Container Store. |

Dont be so sensitive!I've fished in the Florida area since I was a pup and we always enjoyed the boat launch ramp for a laugh! If the shoe fits wear it! If looking sharp is being sharp and big fish are caught the night before... Do what you must! My Whaler is always ship shape and if you want to catch some Stripers/Fluke/Real Bluefish not those schoolies/ and Tuna you are always welcome with me. |

Hey..LHG and me use the same hose! I also use the 25' Walmart white with blue stripe hose. They make a 50' too for a few bucks more. Works great for my little post-classic Outrage whether on the dock or on my raw water wash down. Since it also works for Lhg's classics, then it looks like we have a decent hose for a decent price that spans both camps, the classic and post classic folks.Don't mind us NY folks, sooner or later we all wind up in Florida anyway...<VBG> Ron |

I thought white hose indicates safe for drinking or potable water. |

The blue and white hose is made by Swan that TG, LHG and myself are talking about. It is also available in Lowes but they only list the 50' footer for around $17.00. Described as a marine hose. I bought mine at Walmart, the 25' footer for about half that amount. |
