There is an option on the 2006 Montauk called aft quarter seats. Has anyone seen these or have a picture of them. Also would it be an option that could be ordered for a 2005 Montauk

Thanks.

Tim

Aft seat option for the 170 was abruptly discontinued.

I could see this possibly being a liablity issue with Whaler (or them trying to avoid one). My 2005 owners manual says those rear steps are not to be occupied while underway. By placing seats back there, an owner may infer Whaler intends those to be seating areas (while underway or at rest). No way would I let any of my passengers sit back there while underway.

What do find that is inherently unsafe about rear quarter seats? A lot of Whalers (and other boats) have them. Maybe not the ideal place to sit in certain conditions, but they certainly have their utility at other times.

If an image of the aft rear quarter seat option is available online, can we please have a URI for it?

Here are a couple of seat options that I have encountered besides the standard rear bench that resembles the one used in the classic Montauks.

Hi Everyone,

I called Boston Whaler requesting info on this seat. I was told that it will only work for MY-2006 170's and up.

Apparently Boston Whaler added [reinforcement] to the botton of the rear quarter steps where the seat would mount. The 2005's and below do not have this so you'd be mounting to fiberglass only.

I still like that bench that Hall made. It is shown in Eric's pics (the funky shaped bench). I forgot how much it was but seeing that I just spent $1,200 on a forward dodger, it will have to wait.

Dave Anderson makes a bench seat as well and a pic of it can be seen on his web site. Not sure what year it is for or how much. His number is 321-267-7028.

Thanks,

Alan

I think I may have gotten confused before making my comments above on safety. I had assumed Tim was referring to a simple seat pad and small padded backrest screwed into the existing rear steps. This is the type of "aftermarket" seating installed on "Tabasco" - the 2003 170 MONTAUK featured on this site that seemed to ignite the current craze with the new Montauk hull. It was not a factory option. After looking at the above linked pictures, they look much more robust and safer than what I was referring to.

Hi Everyone,

I just spoke to a woman from Halls and was quoted pricing for seat cushions and backings. Seat cushions are $140 for the set and the backings are $95 each.

She tried to steer me away from buying the seat backings or using a Dauntless design because many customers have complained about losing these backing when underway.

Apparently they are snapped on and the snaps don't hold well enough against the forces and pressures created by wind and air when underway.

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks,

Alan

swist, what I don`t like about the rear quarter seats on the nantucket is the backrest is small and low, a compromise I guess with fishing off the stern. When we`re fishing only I leave the port side seat and cushion at the dock. Underway I`m a little uncomfortable having people back there for fear they could "roll" off under acceleration or rough water. The pic that Eric posted of the quarter seat on the montauk looks much safer.
Also with the Optimax its loud back there. That would be an advantage of a 4-stroke.

We have just bought a 2006 170 Montauk, and would like to purchase the aft seats, we were quoted by dealership 1724.00. This price seems awfully high, does anyone know how much this seats cost.

Thanks Jeanne

"Build Your Whaler" says it's $1,362 if you order it while your Whaler is being built. Expect to pay at least that, plus considerable freight charge if you want it after the fact. Labor for installation will also be extra.
