Always ask those who know so here goes.

I have a 1999 Outrage and have bought a set of Lenco trim tabs 9"x12" with the led tactical switch. I noticed that on the rear of the outrage there are two raised slots one on each side that the trim tabs fit perfectly below.
I trial fitted them and they do not fit quiet flush. There is about 3/16 inch or less on each side of the tab where they don't fit perfectly flush if you press the them flush with the transom in the middle of the tab hing.

The question is as follows. Will I need to shim the tabs or will it be ok to screw them down as is?

Thanks
Milt

What model Outrage? I have a 1999 17 Outrage II, and it has nothing that could be considered a "slot" back there. Regardless, the transom on my boat has some curvature to it. I just screwed the tabs down and they fit well enough, with no apparent binding. Not sure if you mean there is 3/16 inch gap, or a 3/16 inch long gap. A picture might help.

Roy,

What I meant is there is a 1/8" gap between the back of the hinge on each end and the mounting surface due to the curve of the mounting surface when the center of the 12" hinge is placed flush with the surface in the center.

The Whaler is a 20' Outrage with a 200 saltwater Optimax. Boat and motor have less than 12 hours on them and it has been in dry storage since 1999 due to heart problems that I experienced back in 99 and just had repaired.

I'm finally getting the boat rigged and ready to use for this fall.
