I've had a 2006 170 Montauk for the past 12 months and have had a great experience with the boat until this past week. Had the boat in eastern Washington for the Labor Day weekend and had a great time - fishing, water skiing, tubing and cruising. No problems until Tuesday morning when getting ready to haul the boat out of the water - the steering suddenly became nearly non-existent. I could still turn the boat but it took all my strength.

I have an appointment scheduled later this week at my local Whaler dealer to check out the problem but was wondering if anybody has had any similar experiences, can offer guidence, etc.

Thanks for your input.

No problem if you are lubing the steering fittings in front of the motor per the manual's periodicity.
