I have a 2006 170 Montauk with a 90 Mercury 4 stroke and notice that the rubber grommet that seals all the hoses/wires going into the engine keeps popping out from raising and lowering the motor. No big deal, but an annoyance. Have others seen this and do you have a solution to keeping it in place? Great site. Thanks.

I have the same problem with a 2005 115 4 stroke. Does anyone else have this issue?

My grommet finally came apart, I ordered a new one and cut out some of the blanks for hoses and wires and refit. Refit it so the hoses and wires are not crowed. Mercury tried to jamb to much into too little a hole cut into the grommet. Then use cable ties to hold it together. This stopped mine from coming out. Jim

That didn't read well so here is the procedure:

1. Take the grommet off. It has a split.
2. Look at the back side of the grommet.
3. There are unused places for wires and hoses. The installer jambed everything into one or two holes in the grommet. This puts the grommet in a bind.
4. Cut out the unused places in the grommet that work best and refit to your setup.
5. Use wire ties to keep the grommet together.

Mine has held fine for several months now. Jim
