Handn,What type of set up do you have now? Do you already have 2 regular outriggers and want to install a center rigger in addtion to them? |

The brand that I would recommend is Lee's.http://www.leetackle.com/centerrigger.html I mounted a set of top mount riggers on my fiberglass hardtop. You drill holes in the fiberglass top, use stainless steel screws with washers, locking nuts and an aluminum backing plate. Lee's sells the riggers and backing plate. You buy the screws. For your boat, you will need 2.5" screws (that's what I used). |

Brian7son, A Lee's center rigger looks like the way to go. I have Taco outriggers. Lee's recomends a 45 degree center rigger base and 12 foot poles. Do you think I need to use a backing plate and mount and drill the bolts all the way through the hardtop? I was thinking of surface screws. Thank's for the information |

Handn,If it were me, I'd use the backing plate. I think it would give you better piece of mind if you're out there getting bounced around in rough seas and that rigger is whipping all around. However, I must admit that I am prone to going for overkill when I install things. I like things to be "heavy duty". Also, it is very easy to drill the holes and drop the screws through. Then on bottom side I put washers and lock nuts on the backing plate. I also put some white marine silicone under both the top plate and the backing plate. Dont use 5200, you may want to removbe it some day. With the new outriggers that I just installed, I used double release clips on each side so that I can have 4 lines in my outriggers (2 on each). Man, you're going to have a fishing machine with the 2 outriggers and a center rigger on a Conquest. If you really want to go all out, put on a double pulley and 2 clips on your center rigger. Then you can put the top line "way back" and the lower center line 1/2 way back. I see that you live in Colorado, not a lot of trolling up there. Where do you fish? Sounds like you should take that rig on the upcoming B.W. Bimini trip!! Brian |

The boat is in San Carlos, Sonora. We have blue water fishing for half the year from May 15 to Nov 15 and California cold water type fishing the rest of the time. We have lots of striped marlin, occasional blue and black marlin, some sails in the summer, lots of dorado until the long liners catch them all and occasional wahoo and yellowfin tuna. I have been thinking about double spreader rigs for my outriggers. I think I have 15 foot poles. I ordered my center rigger from Lee's. I'll ask them what they think about a backing plate. Thank's for your help. |

I wrote to Lee's about a backing plate. Their reply was "always recomend a backing plate, but we don't sell one." I can fabricate one out of stainless or aluminum plate. |
