Hi All,

I just took delivery of my new 08'170 Montauk and would like to know if anyone has installed a rack on the side of the boat to store gaffs, deck brush, etc! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also looking for a storage cover. Anybody had any dealing with online companies that they were happy with?

Thanks,

Andrew

That is great news...I hope mine is not too far behind! I have seen pictures somewehere on this board with side racks and it looks like they use a suction type mounting. As far a s covers go, I am going with the Mills mooring cover. It does require drilling for the tie-strap mounts but I am ok with it. Any pictures of the new boat? Also, what options?

Andrew:
I use the suction cup "rod racks" made (I believe) by Taco. Got them from Cabelas, or Bass-Pro...can't remember which...$30.00 or so.

They stick very well, and require no drill holes. I use them to secure my dip net and my push-pole.

Congrats and best of luck.
I just finished my first year and I purchased the Mills mooring cover. I kept my boat at a slip and after wrenching my back I also purchased the CC $ RPS cover from Mills which I used more than the full mooring cover. If you plan on using a full cover only for back yard storage and trailering you could purchase a less expensive cover. Also I read on this site that someone mentioned that the mooring cover ( according to Mills and if I read it correctly) is designed to sustain only a 55 mph wind which means when trailering you may be pushing it's limit. Call Mills Canvas they are very good but expensive. Maybe you could inquire if they would provide reinforced stitching so that you can use it for trailering. One quick tip I found helpful . When using the Mills mooring cover water tends to gather in the area over the anchor locker. Place your cooler up on the bow area and on top of the cushion ... this will prevent water from accumulating and stretching the canvas...it's really no big deal. Also about drilling the holes for the clips...I did it and I'm no handyman when it comes to fiber glass and boats. There's plenty of info on this site on drilling and avoiding cracks in the gelcoat, and with that info I went for it . Again no big deal. Enjoy

Appreciate your asking about the side racks...the answers are helpful and I'll be going to Cabella's web site after this post.
