Hi,

All I just purchased a new 120qt Igloo cooler for fish storage. I was looking at the stock cooler chock this afternoon and the chock folds down. I noticed that there are two 3/8" footmans style loops one on each side of the folding section of the chock. Does anybody know why Whaler put these on.

At this time I am going to either place the 120Qt cooler on top of the anchor hatch, or temporary remove the stock cooler in front of the console. Any ideas or thoughts on anyone that has a similar setup would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

Until you mentioned it, I never even realized my 4-year old 170 Montauk had those footmans loops. I have no idea why Whaler placed them there. The most likely reason is they are anchoring points which allow you to supplement the two rubber hooks with a bungie cord for securing the stock cooler.

The best location for an extra cooler depends on what style of fishing you do. We ocean troll the 170 Montauk for blue water fish and need to keep the aft deck clear. For this reason, my large fish cooler goes atop the anchor locker hatch. Two lines are used to lash the cooler to the front rails to prevent it from shifting while underway. The extra weight of that cooler seems to improve the ride somewhat in rough ocean water.

Hi,

I used to attach my extra cooler to the back of the RPS. I needed the transom free cause thats where I had my adhesive ruled sticker for measuring the fish I never caught.

"my adhesive ruled sticker for measuring the fish I never caught."

Sounds like we have similar fishing techniques.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he goes out on a boat drinking beer all day with his buddies.

Guess I'm right there with you guys - I've been using my adhesive ruler to keep track of my beers.

I guess the mommy and daddy fish respect my fishing abilities cause they keep offering me up their youngest (smallest) kids as a tribute to me. LOL

I always give them back their kids by the way.
