Maybe it is a midlife crisis--I turn 45 tomorrow--however, I am about to replace my 1995 Evinrude 40 with an 2008 Evinrude E-TEC 50. The 40 was run in saltwater and not well taken care of. I purchased the boat last October, and I am ready for the new power. My 40 is mounted on the top hole, as low as it can go. boat performs well with the 40 in that position. [How should I] have the 50 mounted? Thanks

[Changes the subject to suggest using a completely different motor.] |

I have just drank the E-TEC kool aid, so to speak. The other [concerns] are the gauges, and controls. I had to buy a new tachometer, but the trim, voltmeter, throttle, etc. will all work with the E-TEC Evinrude. It will be ready next week and weather permitting, I will give everyone an update |

I owned a 1995 [DAUNTLESS 13] powered with a Yamaha 40 two-cycle. It was under-powered, and wished I had the 50. Switching to a stainless propeller from an aluminum propeller helped quite a bit with [acceleration from a standing start].Good luck. |

I also have a [DAUNTLESS 13], and I am planning to upgrade to a Evinrude E-TEC 50 or 60. What results did you get from the 50-HP E-TEC on the Dauntless 13? Are you happy with the power upgrade?Curious to know; Thanks Mike |

I have been thrilled with my E-TEC 50. Top speed is 31-MPH at 5,800-RPM. I am still messing with engine height. It is currently mounted on the second hole from the bottom, however I am going to go up one more hole and see. The acceleration is neck snapping. I tube and ski, pulling my 8- and 10-year-old's. It is a blast. |
