I recently purchased my first Whaler.. :) as advertised it is supposed to be a 1995 16ft hull (model unknown). In doing some research I am finding that there really arent 16ft boats.. It looks like a montauk but the cap rails do not extend down and connect with the deck, there is a lip underneath the rail that is filled with foam. Also the inside of the gunnel is actually the same piece of fiberglass is the outside of the hull. If anyone has any ideas of what it is please let me know..We removed the fuel tank (which was halfway below the deck line and resting on the center stringer (wood))and are installing a standing console, new fuel tank, bow rail, repower with a 90, install a cooler seat for the helm. Do any of you have a reccomendation for leaning post that would be in balance with the boat? Any suggestions for the project would be greatly appreciated. Cant wait to get it done and give her a splash... Pictures to follow

You really have to post some pictures. From what you're saying I can't imagine what boat you have (if it's is even a Whaler). Or at least find the same boat in the archives somewhere and relate to that. |

May be a 16SL. Is the hull a deep vee with a flared bow? Did it have twin consoles originally? |

Could be a Newport or a Newtauk. They both have a deck on top of the original deck sort of setup. |

IMHO you do NOT seem to have a Whaler. While I surely could be wrong, I don't believe Whaler made any 'single wall' boats such as you describe: "...the inside of the gunnel is actually the same piece of fiberglass is (sic) the outside of the hull." A 16-foot Whaler would have foam all the way up the gunwale, inside a 'double wall'. Additionally, I believe older 16-foot Whalers use on-deck portable fuel tanks (at least mine did) rather than a fuel tank "...halfway below the deck line and resting on the center stringer (wood)..." I have never cut open a Whaler so I'll let others more knowledgeable of the innards of a 16-foot Whaler comment on the (exposed?) "...center stringer (wood)..." Whether a true Whaler or not, hope you enjoy your new boat. |

Does the boat have a 6ft. storage area down the middle? If so the boat is a 16SL. |

What's the Hull Identification Number? It will be on the outside of the transom, starboard side. And how about a picture? Chuck

How about a response? Don't sound like a Whaler to me unless the 16sl but the wood stringer throws me for a loop. |
