I have never bought a new Boston Whaler before and I was wondering what would come with it? The 190 Outrage in particular.

For the 150 Verado what is the required battery?

Thanks for the Mercury link.

So now, what comes as standard with the purchase of a new [Boston Whaler boat]?

My 2007 Dauntless 200 w/Gen 2 200HP Verado came with two Group 24s, flooded cells, installed by dealer. I am in the process of replacing them with Odyssey Group 24 AGMs with 1500 MCA, which exceed Merc's 1000 MCA requirement.

AGMs have several advantages over flooded technology. In my case I wanted batts that would self-discharge slower than flooded and have a longer operational life. Odysseys are quite expensive, but worth it if you are going to keep the boat for several years.

According to Boston Whaler's web site the standard 190 Outrage comes with:

My understanding is that most of the smaller Whalers come with Group 24 batts.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

Other then what is indicated on the BW website, do the dealers include things like an anchor, vest, flares etc?

most dealer supply a "coast guard" package or it's known by a few other names - crusing package, get ready package, etc.

it includes approx all the stuff you need to not get pulled over
1 or two extingushers
4-6 really cheap life jackets - usually in a big white zipper bag
a horn/whistle
a really lousy anchor and 50 feet of lousy line
flares

and a few other things...over the first year, you'll find you will replace most of this stuff with quality items...

Your dealer will also paint the bottom for you gratis, detail, inspect, etc. Up until last year they would throw in a tank of gas.

Paint the bottom gratis! Mine didn't and I would ask if anyone in the Mass area ever received a gratis bottom painting. A bottom painting seems to me to be a great "perc".

I just bought a new Whaler this week.

Included:

Obviously a detailed immaculately setup boat
coast guard package
Danforth with 6 ft chain 150 ft line
bottom paint
(gas not included this time around...)
delivering my boat via water to my dock.
paperwork completed etc at my dock.

Pretty convenient. But then again I am sure I didnt dicker as much as I could/should have.

205 Conquest / 175 Verado.

Three boats. I need my head examined. I may sell one of them though. Probably will.

LOL
I still kick myself for not buying your 19 a few years back.

I have never heard of gratis bottom painting. I just took delivery of my 305 and I had to pay for the bottom painting, although all three fuel and the generator tanks where filled (gratis) – I guess you could consider it a wash (although with gas $ today – maybe I got the better end of the deal?)
Tohsgib posted 04-11-2008 12:51 PM ET (US)     Profile for Tohsgib  Send Email to Tohsgib
Yeah I always paid for paint as well but got a free tank of gas.

Sal..how much do you want for the 205? Call me next week when you get ready to sell it.

Other than the standard equipment provided by Boston Whaler, there is no standard for the equipment included by the dealer. It is up to the dealer what other equipment is included in the price quoted.

The battery is usually installed by the dealer, but the rigging for it is provided by Boston Whaler.

It is also common for dealers to include a package of accessories which will include dock lines, personal floatation devices, enough safety equipment to meet minimum standards, and sometimes an anchor and gear.

In some cases the dealer will provide top-quality accessories, and in other cases they provide a cheapest possible items.

Alfred,

As others have pointed out a Coast Guard package is provided with most boat purchases. That said you don't have to accept the package as provided. It is a place I have found dealers might be willing to give some extras. (e.g. better anchor, more chain, long rode, better Pfd's, etc.) Just depends on the dealer and what you ask for in the negotiation process. It doesn't hurt to ask for any number of things including first year winterizing, oil changes, etc.

Sal A,

As Tohsgib has already chided you on other posts about your boat ownership practices I will refrain from jumping on....4 months? Are you sure about that? Congratulations on the purchase, are you keeping the trailer, Oh never mind, you just sold the trailer! (Would this be a bad time to ask if you want to go fishing?) Best of luck with the new boat.

I got free bottom painting on my Montauk, and full gas tanks (but that was with the 2 little 6 gal OEM tanks, I didn't keep those for long).

This was at Russo's in Medford, MA. Subject of a least one negative thread somewhere in here. (And at least one positive thread too).

alfred posted 04-12-2008 08:40 PM ET (US)     Profile for alfred  Send Email to alfred
I don't intend to put any bottom paint on as I don't normally (or at least haven't to date) leave the boat (my current 18 Outrage) in the water overnight, but will ask try to ask for the other items. Should be concluding the deal over the next few days.

When we bought ours in July 2005 we got (in addition to stuff listed by others above) a full 92 gals of gas, a small first aid kit, and a good boat hook. And...a free summer slip from July to November and free winter storage for the 2005/2006 period.
It was good business, as we have stayed on as slip customers ever since, with no intent of moving anytime soon.

I just took delivery of my new boston whaler 190 outrage this week. The dealer provided the following:

4 adult life jackets
1 set(4) flares
1 daytime distress flag
1 first aid kit
1 whistle
4 dock lines
1 anchor and line
4 fenders
1 full tank of gas
2 fishing poles (for my kids).

What I bought since delivery
1 boat pole
1 scrub brush
1 bucket
1 bottle of soap
4 Life jackets of substance for the kids to wear
(big orange ones won't do it for the kids)
1 chart of the area I'm boating in
1 hose and to flush engine and nozzle to wash deck

What I intend to buy
1 something to stow the anchor in foward anchor
locker so that the anchor is not hitting the
gel coat(any recomendations)? Right now using a
spare throw cushion that I used on my canoe.
1 set of rubber tips to put on the outside of anchor so
that gel coat doesn't get damage.
1 wax for maintanence.
1 chain to upgrade anchor(anchor provided is suitable however would like to install 10ft of chain?)

Bill
