I have a deposit down on an '03 170. Unfortunately, the boat does not have a cooler / back rest in front of the console. Can anyone point me the right direction to find one. I would like to keep as close as possible to Whaler Original. Thanks.

The original backrest and cooler seat cushions can be obtained at any whaler dealer. They are high quality and not inexpensive just so you know.

The cooler is an Igloo 72 qt marine cooler can be found at many marine stores (boaters world, West Marine, etc.) In a google search prices range from $70-100. Shop around.

You may need a cooler hold down bracket, see the dealer for that as well.

Check with Lois at Hall's Upholstery. She made me a custom backrest which was a little higher than stock, and cheaper than a Dealer. Ingloo also sells tiedowns, so check out their website. I've had a 2003 for 2 years now and LOVE it! Good luck with the new purchase!!

What kind of money are they drawing now with the price of gas the way it is? What engine?

For the record, Halls does not produce cushions that Whaler currently sells.
If you want OEM with the embossing, contact a dealer. Calling 2 or 3 dealer parts departments will give you the best idea of price.

I think the OEM cooler bracket mounts to the console and not to the floor. A generic hold down kit (corner brackets) might not work since there may not be any backing material in those locations. Check the diagram on Whaler's website.

In 2004 the deck mounted cooler cleats and adjustable web strap tie downs were changed to a console mounted cleat with bungee tie downs.

I believe the newer style makes for easier deck cleaning and also improves deck space (cooler is slightly closer to the console and no toe stubbing protruding deck cleats). However the old style, which my 2003 MONTAUK 170 has, secures the cooler much more rigidly and makes for a more secure feeling seat.

I've contemplated switching mine to the new style as I don't carry passengers there very often and I don't like the deck cleats being in the way.

Also there is no embossing on the cooler seat cushion or the console backrest but if they aren't OEM (i.e. the generic cooler cushion at West Marine) they won't match the RPS.

He is correct. Hall's does not have the embossed Whaler logo, but they do have the embossed stripes and the gray welting like the OEM parts. It all comes down to money. If you are willing to spent the extra, the OEM cushions are nice. I didn't get the backrest cushion with my used 2003 so I ordered a custom cushion that fits your entire back all the way up to the top of the rod holders. I put a piece of 1/4" plastic board behind it to support the outside edges.
