jason8453	posted 06-05-2008 01:17 PM ET (US)         I've done everything I can do to keep [a 1998 Mercury OptiMax 200-HP] motor from getting hot at high throttle, and nothing has worked. The impeller [is] just not pushing enough water through. The motor [gets hot] when it [the impeller?] is new. [After] the first two or three hours into the trip I've noticed no water [exiting] out of the top cylinder. [The Mercury OptiMax 200-HP has] done that several time now. To make things worse I have a low water pick-up system. I don't know if [the low water pick-up] is a [cause of the motor not pushing enough water through] but I always have to keep the motor running below 4,000-RPM, otherwise the buzzer comes on. Is a large capacity impeller made to fit [the 1998 Mercury OptiMax 200-HP motor] by any company? thanks Jason
sosmerc	posted 06-06-2008 11:29 AM ET (US)             Have your dealer run your serial number to see if there are any updates such as new thermostats and housings that should have been changed on that engine. What kind of low water pickups are you talking about? Aftermarket modification or did you switch to the later design factory stock gearcase with the four additional inlet holes at the front of the bullet? I don't believe your problem is the water pump itself.
