Ok, I've had my new Montauk for about a month and have used her twice, Both times out were pretty choppy and windy. I previously owned a 17 1998 Montauk which I purchased brand new also.

The boat rides great much better then the 17. Lot's of space all over the place. Storage was well thought out. I love the console I almost fit indside so it's easy to work on and wire. I did all the electrical, stereo, VHF, GPS, Depth finder, Hr meter, etc, not to mention a Keel Guard and a Skeg-Guard.

Saying all that I do have to admit it's much slower then my 17 which had a 2S 90 Johnson. That boat flew, you just hit the gas and it took off. The new 115 is much slower on take off, I would have loved the 135 but an additional 4 grand was out of the question.

The 190 is a pain to get off the trailer in low water as it has no rollers, I could push off the 17 with one hand. I also had to install adjustable air shocks on my Envoy as the tail would go quite low when hooked up, the 17 was a breeze to trailer the 190 is quite heavy and you feel it.

All in all I'm glad I bought the 190 but I sure do miss the ease of moving the 17 around, when your pushing 60 every ounce counts.

I have to agree on your assessments. I had a 17, a 170 and now a 190. They are not anything alike however, I really do like the stability, storage and fuel capacity of the 190. I have about 90hrs. on mine. I had a block put under bow of the trailer so, the bow doesn't pivot on the forward bunks when you launch. A roller would work just as well. It comes right off the trailer!!

You wanna dance you have to pay the fiddler.

I do miss some things about the big boat I unloaded for my 170, but the list of annoying things I no longer have to deal with is a much longer list.
