Hello All,

A 1995 Rage 15 has fallen into my hands after 3 years of sitting under a tarp in the driveway. My dad was suckered into buying the boat, unknowing of the problems that plague the Rage line, and remembering the fun times I've had on the boat has made me want to fix it.

We're having the overheat alarm issue, AGAIN, surprise surprise. The powerhead was replaced 3 years ago, so I have a hard time believing there's an issue with the OMC 115.

I've read for hours on this site on how to troubleshoot the overheat issue and just wanted a bit more insight on my specific problem.

We've always owned outboard motors, so when I put the boat in the water, it runs at least 10 minutes at idle. I leave the dock at a slow speed and 50 feet later, the overheat alarm is sounding. In the driveway an hour later, I remove the cover to the water filter (which is clean) and hot water scalds my hands. All of the water lines are baking from the outside as well. I have heard that running at idle for an extended time will not allow water to flow through the lines. Any truth behind it? Should I be gagging it as soon as I hit the lake?

After scalding hands in the driveway, I hook up the flushing attachment and the lines immediately cool to the touch and cool water is in the filter cover.

Any insight on what gives?

Thanks for your help,

Leslie

Hi Leslie,
As a fellow Rage 15 owner, I just wanted to write and encourage you. It seem like few of the folks here have much good to say about these fine little boats I have had mine for two years, run in both fresh and salt water and had a very good experience. It is a fun, stable, nice handling boat. I also have the 115 OMC.
I don't really have any new or different advice on your cooling issue, aside from the suggestion that it almost sounds as if there could be a blockage in the system when the impeller is in place, since you said it cools off just fine when you flush. Good Luck!
