Hi everyone. I think I've read this entire web site over the course of the past month. I purchased a 2008 150 Sport with bow rail last Thursday. This is my first Whaler and a dream of mine for 30 years. My plan is to trailer this boat without a cover. I do however need a cover for when it's sitting at my driveway or at my families place in the Thousand Islands under the pine tree's. I'd rather not spend the money for the Mills cover because I'm not trailering it.

I've read every entry on this web site about covers that people have bought from boatcoversdirect.com, but nobody has mentioned whether or not they had a bow rail. Is there anyone who has purchased a boat cover from them and used it with success on a newer 150 Sport with bow rails?

I saw a ton of Whalers on the St Lawrence River yesterday (Thousand Islands). I was thinking about starting to document them with pictures, location, date etc. I never realized how creative Whaler has been in the past with some of their designs. I even saw a SQUALL sailboat. Is Moe still around?

I also purchased a left-over 2007 150 Sport with bow rail in March of this year. I also do not use a cover when trailering, it would mask the classiness of the boat. I keep mine in a 20' garage. With the fold-away tongue it fits like a glove with room to spare.

If you intend to stow yours in a driveway and don't want to spend alot on a custom fitted cover, buy something that will cover the 150 adequately and then use cover tie downs.

Make it a point to replace the cheesy plastic steering wheel with something more nautical like the Schmitt SS steering wheel with finger grip and integrated control knob. You will come to appreciate this modification. Good luck with your 150. I have a lot of fun in mine up and down the AIWW and inshore coastal waters around Cape May, New Jersey. I have topped out at 35-MPH in the canal.

Thanks for the link. I agree with the steering wheel comment. I couldn't believe that a nice steering wheel wasn't even an option. I had a tarp on the boat during a rain storm on Sunday and of course it filled with water. I took it off (during storm) and it filled with pine needles and other [debris]. It bothers me, but then when I'm in it I forget about all that trivial stuff and focus on beer and boating. Did you use a GPS for MPH?

Yes, I have a Garmin 276c chartplotter that I have mounted in one of the many cup holders BW has provided.

I have avoided drilling any holes in the console or elsewhere by using large suction cups to mount the VHF radio and tie downs for the cooler.

In your driveway, keep the drain plug out for rainy days and raise the bow.

Chopbuster. I got a kick out of that last post. I can't get myself to drill holes and use the suction cup holder for my VHF, and tie down my cooler. I'm likin' that steering wheel. Do you use the control knob on that thing all the time and if not, does it get in the way much when you're not using it?
There's no doubt that they look better with the stainless wheel. I'm surprised it's not an option. That's the only way you can pretend it's a classic, when in fact you're glad it's not. I figure I'll keep mine for twenty years and it will be one anyway. Just no wood. (that probably goes for the boat AND me by that time).

Congratulations on reading the entire website. There is over 1-Gigabyte of text, and that is a lot of reading. To get it done in one month takes a lot of dedication.

1,000,000,000-bytes / 1-month x 1-month/30-days x 1 day/24-hours x 1-hour/60-minutes x 1-minute/60-seconds = 385-bytes per second.

Figure an average word length is about 5 bytes, so that is about 77-words per second, or about 463-words-per-minute. Of course that is reading 24-hours a day, around the clock for 30 days. Quite a marathon!

Yes, I use it quite often. It provides me with instant and precise steering input. I can reverse my 150 in a very tight turning circle.

Depending on my boat speed, I'm tall enough so I can stand and steer with minimal reach, the control knob is at the eleven o'clock position when the engine is centered. I have no problems using the 15.5 Schmitt wheel, don't bother with the 13.5 version it's not enough helm.

The suction cup solution is very transparent. My Icon M422 is stuck to the inner hull just under the starboard throttle assembly and wiring loom. I have taken her out in 3/4' chop and the radio mount has never detached.

I turned 62 this year and retired in June, the 150 has become for me the perfect what to do with all my summer free time solution.

Jimh - Since you're being so literal here in addressing Don's post, I think it fair to point out that "/" in a mathematical equation means "divide by." So, in your post you have:

quote:
1,000,000,000-bytes / 1-month x 1-month/30-days x 1 day/24-hours x 1-hour/60-minutes x 1-minute/60-seconds = 385-bytes per second

Which translates into:

1,000,000,000-bytes (divided by) 1-month (multiplied by) 1-month (divided by) 30-days (multiplied by) 1-day (divided by) 24 hours (multiplied by) 1-hour (divided by) 60-minutes (multiplied by) 1-minute (divided by) 60-seconds...

Hmmmmm......

Care to do that math out for the class? Please show all work.

Thanks.

Never mind - I think I actually see the method to the madness in that equation after all....

Jimh. There was 31 days the month I read this web site. That actually calculates to 373 bytes per second. I could never do 375.

I guess I couldn't do 385 either!

I was able to cut the BW emblem out of my plastic wheel and shape to fit my SS wheel on my 150 sport. I will try and attach a photo. I have a 2003 that I bought used in 2004. I love the boat.
Good luck with your new boat.

I just ordered the Schmitt 15.5" 5 spoke with suicide knob, after seeing a picture of Chopbuster and Bills wheels. I thought about the 6 spoke but Chopbusters picture taking ability got the best of me. Thanks a ton guys. I'll post a picture once I've got her on.
