I have recently acquired a 1996 Dauntless 13. I would appreciate some advice on adding a swim ladder. This particular boat does not have the factory installed swim step/ladder set up. Should I look into a factory model or are there good aftermarket alternatives? In addition, any advice on the actual install would be helpful.
Thanks

This is a factory ladder on my Dauntless 14. It is also available aftermarket. I had this same ladder on my 1992 Alumacraft Lunker V14. I bought it at West Marine. I think in about 1994. It is still available at lots of stores and websites.

Thanks fishgutz. Is that a grab handle mounted just above the ladder? Was that a factory option also?

I forgot about that. Yes it came from the factory like that. The extra handle doesn't come with the aftermarket ladder but they are easily purchased through West Marine or almost any other boating equipment dealer.
This ladder is available with different mounts for different applications. These are specifically for transom mounting and allow the ladder to swing down only to a certain angle (almost straight up and down)and not under the boat. I weigh 210 pounds and it is very sturdy.

Thanks again fishgutz. Looks like another reason to go and visit the Boating World Going out of Business sale.

Check this out, too. http://www.whalerparts.com/Diagrams/1998/130%20Dauntless/6-5-6.pdf
I know it isn't your year but I believe it is the same hull.

I had looked at that part on whalerparts earlier, but have not called to inquire. I was checking here to see what might be be a good alternative. I think for our application, mainly used by my 14 yr. old son, the ladder similar to yours might be the best alternative. Thanks again for the input.
