I would like to know the width of the floor along the side of the center console for both the Outrage 17 and 170. One of the reasons for considering this boat is the increase in walkway clearance vs. what I now have with my Dauntless 14. This dimension is not defined on outline drawings. It would also be helpful to know the width between the console and inside of the hull at the height of the gunnel as well as the actual height of the gunnel in this area.

Thank you.

Dave,

Are you considering the 1990-1995 Outrage 17 I or the 1996-1999 Outrage 17 II? They are different hulls.

When I compared my 1987 Montauk to my 1991 Outrage 17 I, the Outrage has 4 " more room between the console and the side.

There is also more room due to the bow rail on the Outrage being positioned on top of the cap, rather than inside the gunnel.

Having been on a 170 Montauk, you will find it has more room when walking around the console. It feels very beamy.

Personally, I think the Outrage 17 I has a better ride than the 170 Montauk.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Phil. At this point I am just evaluating my options. I presently have a Dauntless 14 that has everything I need but I would like to have a little more room when passing by the console. I go out solo most of the time and as I get older with snotty conditions a wider path would be more secure for me. I like the ride of the Dauntless but the 16 is a very heavy boat. I think an Outrage 17 I or II would provide a similar ride to my Dauntless 14 and still fit my garage.

I don't think there is likely to be anyone that switched from a Dauntless 14 to an Outrage 17 so I am trying to determine what I would "gain" in the critical area adjacent to the console by comparing dimensions.

Dave-

My boat is in my driveway and I can measure any part you want.

If you want to talk off-line, drop me an email (in my profile).

You are welcome to come up and test drive mine.

Dave,

On my 17' 1993 Outrage the measurement at the deck, from the side to the console, is ~ 14 1/2".

20" above the deck (where the rail is mounted),from the side to the console, the measurement is ~ 16"

I find this more than adequate to get around the console.

I may be selling my Outrage in Sept. If interested drop me an email.

Waccamaw Whaler,

Thank you, those are the dimensions I was looking for. Now if someone with an 17' Outrage II could let me know it would be much appreciated.

My Dauntless 14 has the following "pathway" dimensions adjacent to the center console:

Floor to Hull: 13 3/4"
Height of Gunnel: 16 1/2"
Console to Hull at Height of Gunnel: 16 1/2"

I guess the 17' Outrage I center console must be wider because the "pathway" dimensions are quite similar to my Dauntless 14.

If you are still looking for these, I got a chance to measure today...

1996 Outrage 17 II:

Height of Gunnel: 21"

Console to Hull at gunnel: 17 1/2" - this is the inside edge of the gunnell which overhangs the hull some

Floor to hull back edge of console: 17"
Floor to hull middle of console: 15 1/4"
Floor to hull front edge of console: 11"

Port side measurements, I didn't check the other side.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for.
