I hate that when I wash the storage area below the pilot seat [on a Boston Whaler 190 MONTAUK that] it takes a long time to drain. I thought of raising the brackets and aluminum angles to have a drainage space, but then all the seat load would be on the brackets and not transferred to the deck, like from the factory. If I had two one-inch mouse-type holes in each corner to drain, I'd be happy, but then I need to cut the rubber base moulding to make the holes flush with the deck to drain and expel the small dirt that accumulates in the storage compartment. Any tips are appreciated.

Whalerdog, do what I did. I caulked all around the pilot seat, both inside and out. Area is sealed and no water gets in; thus no mildew. Wish I would of thought about that the day the boat was delivered to me.

I did add a breather near the top of the seat in front of the console; it helps with condensation.

I guess I could do that, but the caulking in the boat always get black dots of mould, which I hate. What color did you use: clear or white? I may try a thin bead of clear. Did you caulk the inside and remove the mounting brackets when you did it? THanks

Now that you mention it I should have used black, but, as of now, the caulk has stayed pure white and it's going on a year.

I did not remove anything. I caulked over the brackets and all is well, I did caulk both inside and out.

Do you leave your boat in the water? Mine is on a busy canal with some diesel boat traffic. All my caulk is spotted black, and I hate it!

I have it at a marina on a trailer.

I guess the boat is covered fully.

Yep, fully covered and so is the engine with a Duck fully-custom engine cover. No wonder my wife is so jealous of the boat!

Must stay nice that way. I am jealous too!
