I’m looking for a tender/fishing boat for weekends out on my cruiser.
Shuttling and fishing with or by my son would be the primary purpose.
He’s a large lad, at 6’ and ~270 lbs.
Would he be able to pilot a 13 without dangerous list (assuming a center-right seated position)?
Secondly, I’m 220 lbs, could we both fish this boat and have lake-rideable capacity to carry any more adults?
And finally, if there are reservations on our use in a 13, is a 15 “enough” boat?
I’m avoiding the 17+ range, as it would be too large to practically tow out to the anchorage.
I appreciate all input, and thank you in advance.
13 or 15 Sport- large pilot weight distribution
Re: 13 or 15 Sport- large pilot weight distribution
Due to differences in the hull design, the classic 13-foot Boston Whaler hull is actually more stable than the 15-foot-hull. As a yacht tender, the 13-footer is probably a better choice for you.

Thank you!
I also ran across this thread after googling fat man in a 13 whaler

Going to focus on 130’s

The modern 13-foot boats from Boston Whaler use a different hull design than the classic-era 13-foot boats, and my comments here or any comments in the thread you cited would NOT apply to a modern-era 130-type hull.
If you are interested in the differences between modern era 130 SPORT and 150 SPORT models, you should make that clear.
