Replacement Capacity Plate

Postby spencer.lambert » Tue Apr 28, 2026 2:47 pm

Q1: where can a replacement capacity plate for a 1986 MONTAUK 17 be obtained?

Q2: what information is shown on a capacity plate for a 1986 MONTAUK 17?

BACKSTORY
I recently purchased a 1986 MONTAUK 17, and the capacity plate was removed by the previous owner.

The capacity plate shows the following information:
  • a title, "U.S. Coast Guard Maximum Capacities"
  • the maximum number of persons and the maximum weight of persons permitted;
  • the maximum horsepower permitted;
  • a declaration which states, "This boat complies with U.S. Coast Guard safety standard in effect on the date of certification";
  • the name of the manufacturer;
  • the boat model designator.

Information about the weight and horsepower values for a c.1986 MONTAUK 17 can be found in the REFERENCE article at
