Spot Painting a 135 Optimax

Postby Buoy » Sat Mar 12, 2016 8:58 pm

Hi all. I want to remove the surface rust and repaint the midsection of my 1998 135 Optimax. What paint and/or primer is recommended? Thanks.

For the top coat, use the OEM paint from Mercury. Read the directions carefully, particularly about the time interval between re-coats.

For the primer, usually on aluminum a special aluminum primer is used, usually zinc-chromate. If you can't find that paint, there is a zinc-phosphate primer, and also some self-etching primers. See

Fortunately I had the primer and Phantom black paint already and all looks great. Thanks Jim, I appreciate it.
