1994 OMC Jet Muffler Overheat

I have inherited my brother-in-law's [1994 Boston Whaler RAGE 14] He had blown the [OMC] engine, and then he unfortunately passed away. Thus I have no history on the boat. My wife has insisted on getting it running again. After a complete long-block rebuild, the engine runs smooth as silk. At Idle on the water, I have no problems. When I get on plane the engine runs cool, but the muffler gets smoking hot, then the lower pistons start getting hot. I've had the muffler off and sent out for cleaning at a local radiator shop. I am not familiar with this type of set up at all. I am hoping someone can send give me some direction on what to look for.

I'd give Boston Whaler customer service a call. The customer service representatives go back a long way with Boston Whaler, and they may know about the RAGE boats and their engines. Perhaps they'll have some advice.

If you need any parts, let me know. I just removed a complete unit to do a conversion.

We suggest you check the plastic tee that connects the two hoses coming off the top of the cylinder heads and running over to cool the muffler. This tee sometimes melts shut or gets plugged with debris. If not please visit our website for our contact info we would be happy to help troubleshoot this.
