c.2003 180 Dauntless Replacement for Missing Door

Postby edgross144 » Fri Jul 17, 2020 5:19 pm

I have a c.2003 Dauntless 180. The door covering the batter[y] compartment (identical to the live well door) flew off somewhere while towing the boat, and is nowhere to be found.

Where can a replacement door be purchased?

Can a replacement be fabricated?

Consider making a replacement out of KING StarBoard.

It is unlikely the hatch or access plate or “door” was actually made by Boston Whaler themselves. The hatch or access plate is more likely to be an off-the-shelf product by another manufacturer. Discover who made the hatch or access plate, and inquire with that company about how to obtain a replacement hatch.

The only difficulty might be the hatch or access plate color could have been a custom color for Boston Whaler. If the hatch appears to be just plain white, finding a replacement should not be difficult.

Most manufactured products contain some markings that identify the company that made the product. A close and careful visual inspection of the hatch frame or the other intact hatch should give some help in identifying who made it.

Many older Boston Whaler boats used BECKSON deck access plates. Look at their line of access plates. If BECKSON has a suitable replacement, they are a great vendor. They answer their telephone, they make their original parts in the Boston Whaler colors, and they are easy to work with.
