The Vernal Equinox was very early this morning. It really snuck up on me this year. Usually I anticipate it arriving and watch the declination of the sun creeping North. This year I was not paying attention.
To the Sun: welcome back to the Northern Hemisphere!
I am looking forward to the longer days, and to those slow, lingering sunsets of Summer. We try to spend as much of the summer as possible north of 45°N lattitude. The farther north, the longer the days of Summer.

Re: Vernal Equinox
And unlike the last 2 years, most of the snow and ice has melted at 45°N in Leelanau County. The robins are back. Jim you can start coming north again.

Come on north JimH to 58N. In late June the sunsets at 2207 and sunrise at 0350. We really enjoy the longer days.
As an aside, Juneau has only received 2" of snowfall since December 31 (34.9" total for the winter). Already put the snowblower and shovels away. Getting ready to take the covers off the Revenge.

The Welland Canal opening its shipping season today. This means the upper Great Lakes are again accessible to ocean-going ships.

There was a full moon this morning. That means that Easter Sunday is this weekend. First Sunday after the first full moon following the Vernal Equinox.

Re: Vernal Equinox
Spring so far seems reluctant to appear. I just noticed that yesterday the low temperature in Negaunee, Michigan was -7°F. That's in the upper peninsula, but it is still awfully cold for the third week of Spring.
It is snowing today in our two favorite port towns of Northport, Michigan and Little Current, Ontario. I guess boating season is still a month or more away.

Maybe the world has flip-flopped.
I put the snowblower away 3-weeks ago as our last snowfall was early Feb. Uncovered the Revenge this past weekend. Had lunch on the front stoop last Sunday in the sunshine and 62F. Got the yard all cleaned up from winter debris. My neighbor MOWED his lawn.
At the very end of March, Alaska recorded its FIRST EVER temperature over 70 in the southern portion of the Southeast Panhandle. In Klawock, west of Ketchikan, hit 71F. Beat the old record of 69 from Ketchikan in 1915.
Hope you get warmer.

This morning, April 6, 2016, it was 18F at my home in Massachusetts. Global Cooling?
Re: Vernal Equinox
Yoopers can't wait for sunshine and green grass. Three weeks from today I will have 350 college students on site and need to have at least one rescue boat and the people mover in the water and ready to go. Moving boats around yesterday as their indoor storage facility is being converted next weekend to a general store and recreation hall.
Re: Vernal Equinox
Yikes--we just got a fresh coat of snow overnight here in SE Michigan. Will this snow season ever end?
Dave--great deep blue sky in your picture. That makes a little cooler temperature easier to tolerate.
