2004 190 NANTUCKET: Adhesive for Swim Platform

Postby islavov » Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:31 pm

Q1: should 3M4200 adhesive be used to reinstall a swim plotform onto the transom of a 2004 190 NANTUCKET?

Q2: what adhesive should be used instead of 3M4200?

ASIDE
I had to take off the swim platform on a 2004 190 NANTUCKET to work on transom. The removal was [difficult].

I saw white adhesive on the entire surface area [of some part] as mentioned in Figure 1.

I used a braid to slice through the adhesive to make removal easier.

I could not tell the adhesive brand and type by look or feel .

The drawing shown in FIgure 1 seems to give a rather generic specification for the adhesive to be used. See the text in the box with a red outline drawn around it.

Q2: What is a "braid" that can be used as a knife? I don't understand this word usage.
Q3: did you mean "blade"?

Perhaps "braid" fishing line or steel braided wire.

At some point in the past, Boston Whaler was using Sikaflex as its "adhesive"

Sikaflex 291 is a one part polyurethane adhesive.

Yes, fishing braid - wrapped around two screw driver handles so I can use it as saw, and it worked really well. The adhesive was on the soft side, more like sealant rather than glue. I tested a layer of 4200, leaving it to dry up, and it seems same or at least very similar.
So I am thinking this what I’d use - thin layer of 4200 and assemble it back.
