Boston Harpoon 5.2 Replacement Mast Spreader

Postby paulb » Sun Jun 29, 2025 8:08 am

Q1: what is the part number for a replacement mast spreader for a HARPOON 5.2?

Q2: what vendor sells replacement mast spreaders for a HARPOON 5.2?

BACKSTORY
A spreader has broken on the mast of my Harpoon 5.2. I am looking for a proper replacement. I already purchased a spreader from [some company or person only identified as "ngrite"] that is close, but not correct. The (incorrect) spreader is an airfoil type, and while it is the correct length, the original spreader is angled at the base of the spreader.

Q2: are readers supposed to know to whom or to what "ngrite" refers?

I searched using the arguments "ngrite spreader Harpoon mast" but no meaningful information was returned.

Jim, I think paulb might have mis-typed "rig-rite" as ngrite. Rig-Rite Inc (rigrite.com) sells replacement hardware for sailboats. I ordered a pair of replacement spreaders for my Harpoon 5.2. Part numbers were K-FST535AP for port spreader and K-FST535AS for stbd. These numbers can be found on their website. I can't remember if I had to cut mine to the correct angle, but that can easily be done with a hacksaw. Measure the angle from the old spreader and cut the new ones the same. The part is an aluminum extrusion and cuts and drills very easily. If the customer has any questions, perhaps a phone call to Rig-Rite would help sort out the technical or ordering problems. As I recall, a mounting hole needs to be drilled in the spreader for the mast tang. And a hole needs to be drilled for the fitting that holds the shrouds on the outboard ends.

ALAN G--your mind-reading interpretation of what was written sounds very plausible. Perhaps the fellow will return and let readers know if your intuited correction was indeed correct, and also the fellow can benefit from your excellent advice.

Also, my thought was that Boston Whaler probably was not the fabricator of the sailing rigging such as the spars, the blocks, cam cleats, and so on, and all those products came for companies who manufactured products specifically for sailboats. So getting a "part number" from Boston Whaler legacy literature would probably not be the actual part number used by the original manufacturer of that sailing rigging.
