1974 11-footer: Replacing Stern Drain

Give me advice on how to repair damage from a bad drain tube on my 1974 11-footer.

LONG STORY
I was restoring my 1974 11-footer. The small diameter metal tube which runs from the stern locker to the main cockpit deck was corroded and allowed tons of water to enter and soak the foam. I removed a section of the fiberglass seat and cleared out all the water soaked foam below to the outer hull.

I am starting to think about re-foaming and redesigning the inner drain tube. The original design ended with a vertical section on the pipe exit—which seemed nuts to design it to have standing water like that. Seems like a straight tube with slight angle forward would work perhaps PVC.

I think I've got the same situation going on in the forward locker to main cockpit but I haven't cut the area open to investigate quite yet.

I don't see any info on the drain tube re-design in that guide, am I missing it?

I am sorry you did not find any useful information in the three references that were cited in the article I directed you to read that would help you repair that massive damage to the Unibond hull seen in your illustration Figure 1, above.

I am not able to offer any additional advice specific to your particular hull and drain and your goal to “redesign” that part of the hull.

As for using an plastic material such as PVC tubing in place of brass for hull drains, that has been done. Here are links to more that 20 prior threads which discuss that topic and are found in the archived material of continuousWave.com.
