2026 Mullet Lake Rendezvous

Postby jimh » Wed Oct 07, 2026 9:17 am

The 2026 Mullet Lake Rendezvous (formerly known as the Fall Color Tour) was held the weekend of September 26-27. The attendees were the usual suspects, with a few notable absences due to schedule conflicts. In total there were 13 attendees and six boats:
  • Don aboard DON'S DAUNTLESS 17 (E-TEC G2 115-HP), and Elsa;
  • Don and Gail aboard WHITEWATER OUTRAGE 21 (Yamaha 200);
  • John and Hollie aboard (the borrowed) A LI'L' MISCHIEF 15 (E-TEC 60 H.O.);
  • Emmarie and Blake aboard (yet unnamed) KATAMA 16 (Suzuki DF90);
  • Bob and new dog Tito aboard STRIPER 15 CAROL ANN (with very highly raised Yamaha 90);
  • your author and Chris aboard Revenge 22 W-T Whaler Drive CONTINUOUSWAVE (E-TEC 225) with passengers Dave and Kathy.
Engines were all two-stroke-power-cycle except for a new Suzuki DF90 on the KATAMA 16.

The weather was perhaps the best ever experienced, as the skies were blue and free of clouds, the winds were calm, the air temperature warmed into the 70-degree-range by the end of the day, but the initial morning temperatures were cool enough to keep most other boaters at the dock. We essentially had Mullet Lake, the Indian River, Burt Lake, and the Crooked River to ourselves on the outbound 23.3-mile leg to Alanson for lunch.

FIg. 1. Complete calm and clear sky produced this unusual reflection of Daymark 45 on the marshy southern portion of Mullet Lake.

After lunch on the return leg we encountered much more boat traffic, as by afternoon the pure sunshine and no wind brought out many other boats for a late-season Saturday boat ride, including the local sheriff's boat that was monitoring boat speeds along the marsh waterway between Indian River and Mullet Lake.

Saturday night's dinner was also voted best ever, a really terrific meal prepared by Elsa and enjoyed by everyone. After dinner John gave a nice slide show of his recent visit to Isle Royale, bringing back memories of our 2010 initial meeting of John there at Washington Harbor.

Don Macintyre produced a nice five-minute presentation that shows all the boats and participants.

Looks like a great day for boating and a great time. Don, excellent video, well produced. I'm jealous but not too jealous as me and my Outrage 210 drove 400 miles to Cape Coral for some fun in the Sanibel/Fort Myers area with some German friends and family.
