[Please note this inquiry in NOT about SHORELAND'R trailers.] Are SHORELINE trailers still being built? In what city, state? I can't find the VIN anywhere on the trailer. Where should the VIN be? It's a 1988 tandem axle. Thanks all, Ronnie

Many trailers had stickers. Note use of the word "had". Some states couldn't care less about trailers. Some states, like LA, treat trailers pretty much like cars. Funny, though, if you have a title no one every really checks to see if the title matches the trailer VIN.

[Expressed thanks for information, not realizing it was about Shoreland'r.] All of my trailers in the past have had some type of VIN plate riveted on the frame. Are stickers the norm now?

I own a SHORELINE trailer that is an 1988 model. I was informed the company is no longer in business and does not manufacture any more. As far as the VIN number location, I will look when I can get an opportunity.

I've seen lots of trailers of many brands with VIN stickers.
And that USED to have VIN stickers. When rust gets under
them, they go away.
Mmmm, since I've got a set of letter and number stamps, I
think I'll stamp my VIN in the frame.

I have a 1986 trailer by Shorline. When going to register in my home state of Connecticut, the DMV officer and I scoured the trailer in search of the VIN in a vain attempt to match that which was marked on the trailer with the registration from the former owner. We found a shadow that suggested a place where an information plate/sticker may have been, but nothing else.
I was instructed by that DMV officer to go to another Connecticut location where they would inspect the trailer and, assuming it satisfied their requirements, a new VIN would be issued. Drove and hour north and was told that all they needed was to see numbers inscribed which matched the paperwork. I was given a name and address of a guy would could stamp the number into the trailer for me. So, I went down the street a few feet, paid a guy $20 and, voila!, my vin # was there.
I returned to the DMV and was allowed to register the trailer. I note that had I not placed the VIN on the trailer I would have had to subject the trailer to an inspection which, the officers informed me, I'd have failed. Not because the trailer was inferior or faulty, but because of silly technical issues (things they thought were absurd) that were in the current regs. One thing was that my tires were "too good". Because their capacity was so great, it suggested that the trailer was capable of handling enough weight to require brakes.
If you know the VIN, but can't find it on the trailer, and are confident it is accurate, I encourage you to have it stamped onto the trailer or engraved onto a plate that you affix to the trailer.
Hopefully, that will quiet your insurer.

The license bureau told me today if you cant find the VIN just weighe the trailer. They provided a weight slip; bring it back and they'll issue plates for it. What is the weight of a 1988 tandem galvanized Shoreline trailer?

Your success may also vary depending on the particular clerk you reach at the state registrar. I had one tell me they needed the weight from a certified scale. When I actually went to register an old trailer, I was just asked how much it weighed, no paperwork required. The license fee was based on weight, and that is why the registrar wanted to know the weight. Other than that dimension, they did not seem too concerned.

Anyone have any numbers as to the weight of any galvanized tandem axel trailer for an 18' Outrage? I nwould prefer to NOT pull the boat off of the trailer just to get it weighed.

Weigh the whole package and subtract about 1600 pounds for a standard Outrage 18 with 150 HP and regular stuff.

Tom - although I suppose it's possible they are lying, the Continental galvanized channel frame tandem trailer under my 25 Outrage is shown as 910#, and the trailer under my 18 Outrage is shown as 570#.

I once bought a boat that had a trailer with no VIN #. At the tag office, they just put down "homemade" on the title.
