![]() ![]() ![]() What is the proper way to measure throttle and shift cables for outboard motors? Is it the total length of the cable, including the fittings on the control and motor ends, or is it just the jacketed portion of the cable? I want to be sure to order the correct length replacements. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Andy - Don't make your decision soley on this, but I think it's the TOTAL length. I was just taking measurements on my 18' Outrage today for the same reason. Dave |

![]() ![]() ![]() I'd go with the total length of the cable, from control box to coweling. The fittings slide inside the jackets, and the exterior jackets remain static, so that is really the measurement you want. If you are running the cables along the same route as the steering cable, they should be a little longer to compensate for the engine end bend. If you follow the OMC installation guide, and are adding a 12-ince loop prior to the engine end, I'd add an addiional 2-feet to the length. |

![]() ![]() ![]() If you are replacing old cables you can usually find the length stamped or printed on the cable jacket. Not always easy to find or read, but it's usually there somewhere near both ends. |

![]() ![]() ![]() When ordering Teleflex, Morse or Yamaha cables, the cable length ordered is the jacketed length. Andy |
