I found that ACE Appliance epoxy spray paint is so close to the orginal Desert Tan gelcoat color that it's hard to tell the difference. So far I've done my fiberglass bait tank and my 6-foot fiberglass gaff with it. I was able to get on five coats, wet sand with 1,200 grit, hand buff with a rubbing compound, and rub on some wax. Looks as shinny and new and durable as the gelcoat. Makes those two look like they were ordered from Boston Whaler. I'm telling you, it looks like I gelcoated them. Just thought I'd pass this along.

What's the color you are using? Is this from ACE hardware stores?

When I redid my Outrage V-20 I had to extensively patch the console. I used fiberglass and marine filler. I then sanded it down and top coated with Almond Appliance Epoxy, Krylon I think. The console looks almost stock. The local fiberglass shop wanted $ 600 to do the job, I did it for about $50 in materials. I also used the same technique on the exterior of the transom. There I used a color called Bisque. I was amazed how well that color matched the exterior hull. It's hard to find now.

Yes, it is an Ace brand, and the color is almond. I recommend. I would'nt do the whole boat in it. Just aftermarket parts and such. I've only done fiberglass parts, so not sure how it bonds to other materials. Sure beats sanding, gelcoating, sanding, sanding, and sanding. Buy a can and try it out on something small and you'll see.

Great call Longboarder! I just bought a can - tried it on some small patch jobs. Pretty darn close! Like you said, I wouldn't do the whole boat, but it is perfect for small parts. Thanks!

Thanks Longboarder, I might do my stern seat legs with it, either way thanks for the tip. Jack

I helped a guy do a weathered t top and leaning post on a 18 footer last summer with the same paint. turned out very nice for very little investment.

I used the new Krylon paint for plastic on the battery box and so far it has held up nicely. I plan to do a second one this year.

Yes, Krylon's Fusion paint for plastic works very well. I used their "Satin Almond" color #2437. It was perfect for the battery box in my 1986 Outrage 18.

I used the Krylon almond on a Pate tank...did not hold up very well to gas. The Krylon Fusion will almost literally wash away with gas(even worse). How does the ACE brand hold up?
