Surfboards are made with it. It yellows pretty easily in the sun. Did you add UV protection? I hear it helps some , but not sue how much. yellowing might not be too noticeable over wood--guessing.

I doubt that anyone else has tried your method, seems pointless to me. There are other ways to seal mahogany. How about a couple of coats of thinned varnish. I bet you had to sand quite a bit before you varnished.

well the main reason was that i was limited to a pint of varnish for all my interior, and so sealing the wood with a different material would alloy me to only apply 3 coats instead of the usual 10, and also read that sealing the wood before varnishing makes it last allot longer. people use epoxy resin all the time to seal wood and then varnish over it, but I've never heard of polyester resin being used

Varnish over polyester resin will work just fine. Why were you limited on the amount of varnish?

Yes, that was a great idea. I sealed my wood with 3 coats of West System epoxy. I sanded each coat and varnished with 4 coats. The wood will last much longer using this method. Also, the screws will not sink into the wood making it a more sturdy surface.
If you use a marine varnish. You will have no issues with yellowing of the wood.

Thanks for the replies! i used a high quality z-spar marine varnish with great uv protection, so im hoping for no yellowing of the polyester resin!
