Does anyone know where I could find new rubber gromets/hardware for mounting my windshield? I'm doing a full restoration on an 1989 17' Montauk and trying to locate parts and pieces as I go along. Any input would help! Thanks.......... |

Bizarre coincidence: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000236.html If it’s the Well Nut you’re after, one source is: http://scottnet.com/Catalog/wellnut_page.htm You want the fifth of the 10-32 sizes listed, i.e. 3/4” diameter head, 3/16” thick head, 3/8” diameter shank, 5/8” shank length The entire assembly of hardware that holds the plexiglass windscreen to the console is discussed in some detail here: |

You won't find those wellnuts in the local hardware store or marine discounter! They are extremely difficult to locate, and Tom has referred us to one of the few places that handles them. It's the unusual thread size. |

Larry, It’s not the thread size that is unusual, it’s the head size that’s unusual. 10-32 is a SAE standard thread size and a 10-32 Wellnut is as close as your local Ace Hardware or Lowe’s. The problem with those Wellnuts is the head is too small. If you want the Whaler specified, G3210 Wellnut here are two more sources that list it as available: Thread-Rite Screw Products, Inc. Marshalls Sales, Inc. |

Thanks, Tom - I knew there was something that made them impossible to find! I only have 4 spares left. They seem to fail when they are overtightened too much, deforming them, which is easy to do. |

I just received 25 of these Wellnuts from Scott Supply Service Inc. They are the right size, they even say “G1032” on them. I cannot imagine why one would need to look for another source. The net cost per Wellnut including the shipping was $1. The guy who answered the phone was the guy who took my order, which he only did after he put the phone down, walked back into the warehouse and verified he had some in stock. Two days later the UPS driver placed the small package on my front door mat. Even if I knew they were available at a hardware store across town here in Seattle, it was easier and cheaper to pick up the phone, call Scott Supply in Tucson, AZ at 1-800-800-7268 and give them a credit card number. It really couldn't have been easier. |

Tom, Thanks for the info, again!!! I tried to take mine out without busting them and I got the first one out and it crumbled in my hand. I just ordered 15 of them. The guy who answered the phone kinda chuckled when I asked him about them, and I asked him if there was a run on these things and he laughed and said "yeah, what's going on". I explained it to him and told him he might want to stock up on them. andros, How many do you need. I ordered extra and would be willing to send some to you if you pay for shipping. |
