A hard choice this year. There is not a Whaler in the picture, but I took it from one. Almost went for a sunset picture, much prettier, but opportunities for a shot like this are limited.

Do you PNW people recognize the area?

Great idea for a hopefully lengthy year-end thread, John, kicked off with a nice, quirky shot.

I'll take a trip down Photobucket 2007 Memory Lane tonight when I get home and try to come up with a decent one to post, and I hope a bunch of other CW contributors do the same.

Is it just SE of Friday Harbor - San Juan Island? It looks like rocks I came close to hitting once!

JMARTIN - we all know its important to fish over structure - cos that's where the fish are. I guess these folks were intent on hand collecting their dinner!

In fact, here's a shot very similar to yours, John, taken earlier this year on the way back from a salmon fishing trip up the coast. This poor guy somehow went aground at the very worst time--at the top of the tide--on Bodega Rock, an approximately two acre penniped rookery half a mile from the entrance to Bodega Bay harbor.

Bummer...

Here's a shot of my boat partner Matt sharing some salmon with our resident Bodega Bay sea lion...just what you don't want to do with one of them out at sea, cuz if you do the critter will follow you around all day and take the fish right off your line.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/MattKing023.jpg

This guy will clamber up onto the dock and grab your fish while you're cleaning them if you're not paying attention, and he's so fat from munching on fish guts that he can hardly get out of his own way, but everybody puts up with him and the tourists and kids love him.

Jeepers, is it the same guy?

Amazingly similar boats.

Frontier, close but no cigar. You can see San Juan from here, but you are West of Friday Harbor. John

Wow, John. I can't remember the last time I got stumped by a pic of the San Juans......but you got me on this. Is it the west side of Lopez somewhere or Orcas? I don't recognize that line of poplars in the background because I've not been there in the fall for years. I can't think what rock that is, and wouldn't care to find it. At least it looks like the high tide will get him/her off.I haven't been into Eastsound or Westsound for years either.
C'mon...wherzitat???? Yer killin' me here.

Reef Island--Appropriately named in my opinion. I took the picture aimed East so you got Orcas in the way back, Orcas again in the middle and then Crane, I think. Any how, I just call it the Wasp Passage area and I know one route through it. It looks like a neat area to explore, but I will do that with a guide. Lots of little islands and some big old hurking reefs in there. I know someone with a place and a dock on Crane. Nothing beats local knowledge. John

Oh yeah...that's what it's all about. And what a sweety!

Here's another one to keep the pump primed. I thought this thread would have a hundred posts before the day was out. The following photo says a lot to me about the capability of Boston Whalers and the unmatched joy of west coast salmon fishing, even with the crappy season we just finished:

Nice fish there Tony!

This picture is a few years old but I like it for the proximity to the beach. A few moments earlier, the whale came up within feet of a thrown tennis ball and the dog swimmimh toward it. The look on its master's face was priceless. Unfortunately, I was not prepared with the camera to catch the moment.

The water here was less than ten feet deep. It was feeding upon sand lance.

This picture tells a story:

We've just come off the trailer at the launching ramp at Tobermory, Ontario, and we're headed for Georgian Bay and five days of cruising. Tobermory is built around the harbour and the boats. The boat is pointing out, ready to go.

Notice most of the cruising boats are much larger, 35-footers or bigger. We love our little pocket cruiser--we have the same fun for much lower costs!

The water around here is the clearest in Lake Huron. You can see the bottom at depths of over 30-feet.

At the start of the fishing season I took out a friend of mine together with his dad. He doesn't get the opportunity very often to go out on a boat. Conditions have to be just right. I like these pictures because these opportunities are unique and rare. To top it off we caught some really nice fish that day. Also, it shows just how much room there is in my relatively small 170 Montauk. Don't forget: you can never have enough fishing rods.:-)

My two favorites of 2007 were taken over a fine long weekend up in Door County, Wisconsin, based in Fish Creek.

My joyous young man, aged 9 1/2 mos. here, really shows his enthusiam for Dad's boat. He undoubtedly envisions piloting the Outrage by summer of 2008 (note that we're actually docked in this photograph, not underway):

By the way, Rob, are you going to replace that sweet E-TEC 90 with twins to correspond with your new familial status?

elaelap posted 12-20-2007 02:29 PM ET (US)     Profile for elaelap  Send Email to elaelap
Oh yeah, one more thing, Rob. What "leisurely cruise" are you talking about? I always thought a hammer was used to drive nails, but Tom taught me a new meaning for that word as we blasted up to San Rafael and back in your fine classic Montauk.

And thanks again...sold me on E-TECs, that's for sure.

That's a big negative Tony!...I'm up to my eyeballs in twins at the moment...Oh, and dirty dipers, baby wipes, strollers, car seats, baby Einsteins, swaddle blankets, onesies, milk bottles, rubber nipples, hats, bouncers, swings, cradles, cribs, changing tables, bathing tubs, baby monitors, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, baby wipe warmers, and mobiles.

What we see here in this thread is people having a good time with their Boston Whalers, which as exactly as it should be. I know I enjoy my Whaler and here are a couple shots from this summer's fishing trip to Neah Bay, WA:

I love this shot. Hands down my favorite for the year. My father shot this image at sunrise on Sept 29th. We were trolling with our 22' guardian in 80 feet of water about 1.5 miles off the Frankfort Michigan harbor on Lake Michigan. It was a nice 16 lbs Salmon which is pretty average for the Great Lakes.

Our kids are 14 and 15 now and we have had a Whaler since they were 7 and 8. Here they are on the front of our just purchased Dauntless heading into the sunset over this past Labor Day weekend. We were between Cedar Point and Marblehead on Lake Erie. Our boating time has always been some of our best family time.

Here's another from the August 2007 Isle Royal National Park trip, it doesn't matter what size, what year, how it's equiped, what is important is enjoying your Whaler, as shown here by Chaplain Hoagy of Houghton Lake, Mi.

Two photos make my list:

One is of my grandson Cadence, with his mom (my Beautiful and Talented Daughter, Elaine) and my deputy daughter Angela as we motor out of the harbor for Cadence's very first boat ride.

The second one is a wedding shot....note the photo on the cake table :) The cake top is a pair of anchors, by the way...hard to make out in this shot.
