Tony's (Elaelap ) wife Edie has put together an ash scattering on Saturday, October 5 at 6:00 in Bodega Bay. It is timed to coincide with the Nor Cal Rendezvous. Edie has chartered the 65' New Sea Angler to perform the service. Some of us will follow along in our boats. Afterwards we'll go back to a rented house and have food and plenty of pale ale. Everyone is welcome either on the New Sea Angler or to bring their own boat. More details will follow in the Rendezvous section of CW. |

Matt, I wish I could be there. |

Bless him and family. I wish I could be there but I'm many thousands of miles away. Dom |

Tony's memorial will be on the weekend of our annual Mullet Lake Rendezvous. We'll take a moment at Saturday night's dinner to remember Tony. |

I will raise a glass to Tony from the east coast. |

Wow, what happened? I haven't been on here in a while? |

Lizard, see this thread: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/022279.html |

Can we donate to the service? It can get expensive and I'd like to help. |

My Dad died August 11th and we had his memorial service last week followed by scattering his ashes in Great Peconic Bay on Saturday. We had no real service for the ashes, but we had three boats (2 Pursuits and one Grady) and took his old log books from his three sportfisherman (1965-1992) and read selected passages that many of us knew. It was fun and sad. Best to Edie. JimP |

DaveH, That's very generous to offer. I know Edie is paying for the 65' New Sea Angler plus food. Edie's email address is (e-d@comcast.net) My condolences Jimp for your Dads passing. A Sea service sounds very appropriate. |

Ditto Sal's post. |

Matt (Placerville) Thanks for Edie's email address I sent her a short note. |

Andy Gere- are you heading up for the service? If so, I'd like to accompany you. |

Liz: Andy is coming, AFAIK, but he's in Santa Cruz. I thought you were in SoCal. Chuck |

Andy and I were in contact last night, he is attending the memorial in Bodega Bay. I looked at airfares into San Jose and they are high, on short notice. I was going to try to hook up with him there. If there is a last minute fare that is reasonable, I will jump on it. For now, it appears that I will not be attending. |

Lizard, Alaska flights from San Diego to Santa Rosa Saturday to Monday are $500. |
| lizard |
Matt- I saw one for $562 the rest were upwards of a thousand. I just did two trips back East, one intended and one short notice (death in the family). Short notice one set me back $1700, so things are tight. If I come, it will be last notice because I found a fare I could do. If not, I am there in spirit. Thanks for checking for me. |

Although I never met Tony personally, we talked a few times and he encouraged us/me to come out to Bodega Bay and fish sometime. For some reason he thought I could teach him something about trolling for Pacific salmonids. Not likely. That is a trip and a meet up I will regret never happened. At that time on Saturday we will go out to the beach at Grand Haven and look to the west across the water, silently. And raise a couple of pale ales poured into Whaler logo glasses in his honor. Memory eternal. |

I regret that I will not be able to join Edie and the rest of you this weekend to celebrate Tony's life. On Saturday my wife and I will be flying to Spain for a couple weeks of vacation. I am 100 percent certain that Tony would approve. |

I just got my boat motor running on all cylinders again and will be leaving for San Juan Island tomorrow. On October 5th, I will be fishing for salmon and remembering Tony. He was such a better fisherman than I am. I will celebrate his life by doing what he loved. It's strange, we never met, we never even spoke on the phone or emailed one another. Our only contact was on Continuous Wave but I considered him as a friend. John |

Edie has enjoyed following these posts. Tom, not only would Tony approve 100%, he probably wouldn't approve of us spending boating time honoring him. So to honor his true wishes, when Edie is pouring Tonys ashes over the portside, I'll be using his favorite salmon setup to troll from the Starboard side ;-) |

I know it's a "private" ceremony for Edie, but she will be surrounded by her friends and Tony's. When we put Dad's ashes in the Bay last month, my brother, sister, and I, our spouses, and all of our kids who were there got to "scoop" a cup of Dad out of the urn and place him in the Bay. It was all very quiet and solemn and made us all a part of it. Obviously Edie's call. |

Last Saturday I went to the same place on Kaneohe Bay were Tony and I pulled up to the sand bar 5 years ago and relaxed, talked about boating, family and life in general. I spent a good 30 minutes reflecting on how short life is, how important friends and family are and really got chocked up. In the short time I spent with him, he really left a profound impression on me. We were polar opposites in regards to political views but it was surreal how it was all put aside and we were able to share a couple of beers and really enjoy each others company. I gave him a toast, shed a couple of tears then proceeded to hook a nice bluefin trevally that I'm sure he would have appreciated. RIP my friend |

Sorry that Jill and I won't be coming up this weekend, but would like to toast Tony with his favorite ale. Does anyone know which one it was? Really miss elaelap! Thanks, Mark |

I recall seeing Tony enjoy a Sierra Nevada on more than one occasion, though I'm not sure if it was his favorite. |

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow. I will be bringing Loolee 3, Tony's first Whaler with me. The weather looks promising. I have a case of "pale ale" to contribute... and some of our favorite smoked salmon from Angelo's meats in Petaluma. If I know my buddy Matt (Placerville) he's got some seafood surprises up his sleeve too!.... if he's not busy out there catching some more fresh...! This year is extra special for obvious reasons. I'm going to ask some local Park Rangers who knew Tony to drop by...

I really wish I could have been there...because I couldn't, I did the best I could. At 9pm (Est) I walked out to my driveway, faced toward the Pacific and raised a beer in Tony's honor. Hope you all had a joyful evening of remberance... Tight lines my friend.. |

I only spoke to him once on the phone, his generosity was very real. Like Jeff, at 6 p.m., I looked NW and hoisted one, with a lump in my throat. |

Jill and I are having oysters and pale ale toasting our lost friend Tony and missing the Bodega gathering, salmon on the grill! Mark |

Wish I could have been there, One word described Tony better than any other. Tony Cared. |

The gathering, the ceremony, and the day were all beautiful. I know that all of us felt his warm, humerous and fun-loving spirit as we said farewell to Tony on a perfect windless evening under a spectacular sunset. |

Lots of family and friends.... Warren |

Thought that was really classy to have his beloved Whalers out for the service. The last shot is really special. Martyn |

Thanks for sharing, what a lovely evening on Bodega waters, very warming to see! Mark and Jill |

Edie read the following thread during the ceremony, and it had us chuckling and tearing up in the same instant. It was a beautiful moment to be sure. |

I've posted some pictures at http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/32373151_JJnJMk#!i=2818532178&k=hTpJ8qH There's a few old ones of Tony (some from Adm. Linda), then a few of the scattering of Tony's ashes (I too want my ashes too nourish the sea), and then a bunch of pix of the celebration of Tony's life. Sorry about the ugly URL, but with SmugMug if you make it
