Somehow I missed this cool outboard from Seven Marine. It would be a little too much power for my Outrage 22, but the technology looks cool.

...and, dual 300's are $20K less that one 557; quad 300's are $60K or more less than dual 557's, and the 300's are mass produced with good track record.

I was in Fort Lauderdale in December, sitting on the lanai watching the boats (bling) go buy on the intracostal, and here comes a 42'maybe be a 46' Intrepid with four 557's on the back. Doing the math, that's close to half-million dollars on the transom! Total package must be over a million. The name of the boat is "Impeachable." Speeds in the high 70's with major gas consumption. Cool factor? Off the charts! Maybe the lottery will buy me one.

The 557 is about $75,000 per copy so four would put $300,000 on the transom.
The new 420 Outrage might be a candidate for three 557s (3 x 557HP = 1671HP). Currently, there appears to be no way to get close to the maximum of 1675 HP with any Mercury branded power unless the boat can handle FIVE Verados.

Cool engines. One of the owners of a set of twins was saying they have been modified to 700-HP very easily as the aftermarket parts and computers are plentiful since it is an automotive engine.

If you had four of these outboard on the transom and ran full throttle for an hour, they would consume more gasoline than my boat does in four seasons of use.

People that have 4 of these outboards on their transom are not concerned of the season usage of petrol.

I'd say that is obvious. I made the comparison to highlight the conspicuous consumption of resources. I think being conspicuous is part of the appeal of this engine.

They now offer 2 models, this 557 and added a 627hp. Ho hum, only 70hp more. :))
Probably close to $90k for that engine.

How big a fuel tank do you need? With 4 motors, one is needed just to haul fuel.

I wonder what seven marine did to increase the hp. I didn't see anything in the press releases. The GM LSA motor that the 557 hp motor is based on is pretty easy to increase the hp by 70 with pulley change (increase boost) and appropriate fueling calibration. GM also made a LS9 motor that made 638hp and its major difference was a larger volume 2.3L supercharger (vs the 1.9L SC in the LSA) and better internal engine parts.
