Hi, I recently purchased a 1971 Katama 16 powered by a 1977 Evinrude 85-HP. There is a large rubber pad between the motor and transom that sticks out beyond the engine mounting bracket. I am replacing the old motor with a new Yamaha 90-HP two-cycle. Can I get away from using the rubber pad on the new motor?

Do not use a rubber pad when mounting an outboard to the transom of a Boston Whaler.

Thanks Tom, I bought this Katama to pacify me until I get my 1971 Outrage restored. I have been very impressed with the Katama and it seems to be a great boat, but I'm looking forward to the new motor.
