froberts	posted 02-11-2014 03:59 PM ET (US)         I saw some pictures of modifications made to the reversible pilot seat storage [on a Boston Whaler 170 model, perhaps means a 170 MONTAUK] done a few years back. Have any of you added storage to your 170 [Boston Whaler boat]?. The links [in some unspecified resource] to all the pictures are dead. Please post if any of you have pictures [of modifications made to the storage of a reversible pilot seat on a Boston Whaler 170 model]. Jefecinco	posted 02-12-2014 06:38 PM ET (US)             If the 170 Montauk RPS is similar or the same or similar to the 190 Montauk RPS the convenience of using the storage can be increased. On my 190 I line the storage area bottom with Dri-Deck to encourage drainage. I also use a couple of "milk crate" type crates to store my items. Using the milk crates makes loading and unloading much easier and having your gear arranged the same way at all times makes putting your hand on what is needed fast and easy. Butch
Ridge Runner	posted 02-12-2014 09:59 PM ET (US)             On a 170 Montauk the fuel tank(s) are located under the RPS. Your 190 Montauk has a built-in fuel tank.
froberts	posted 02-13-2014 12:50 AM ET (US)             Thanks for the pictures,might look into a small glove box for keys and a wallet. Looking at a th marine 1330 hatch and using starboard under the seat on the rps. I figured the glove box on the console could be 7x14 and 6 inches deep.Could go larger but would have to move things around, which i don't think i will do. The rps could be 15x32 and 3.5 inches deep because of the twenty six gallon tank.The hatch cost 100,the glove box cost 95 and the starboard would run 75 bucks for a piece 24x48. I want to do the work but am debating the cost vs the gain in storage. I was all so thinking about replacing the 26 gallon tank for 2, 6 gallon tanks but that would cost me another 135 dollars. I could then maybe get 5.5 inch depth under the rps seat, but now my cost would raise to 405 dollars. The 26 gallon tank is over kill on this boat. I could fish 15 days in a row five hours a day and still have fuel. I love the boat but wish whaller would have made the console bigger,built in a fuel tank and made the whole rps storage. Wish i was rich so i could take to a boat yard and make the inprovements to the interior because the hull trailers and boat handles like a dream. They seemed to make the 190 perfect but i fish in skinny water a lot and the 4 inchs of extra draft really affects area you can get in and how long you can stay.
Ridge Runner	posted 02-13-2014 09:50 AM ET (US)             Interesting idea - I like the possibility of using that space under the seat...space is such a premium on this boat. There are companies like TH Marine and Tempress that make a hatch with a drop in box for storage but I haven't seen one that would be that shallow. Tempress has a hatch and box that is 13x24x9. Cabela's carries their line the hatch is $120 and the liner or box is $63. If you do make this mod please take some photo's and keep us informed. Good luck with your project.

froberts	posted 02-14-2014 08:01 PM ET (US)             I measured the Depth of the box under the RPS seat with my curent fuel tank . I could build a box that is 3 inches deep and 31x15. I pulled the rps off the boat today and moved the structure scan module so i would have room for a glove box. Have decided on a glove box that is 14.5x8x6 (deep). Te glove box will cost 79 dollars and the TH Marine hatch would be 103 dollars. If i change fuel tanks (2 6 Gallons) i could make the hatch 6 inches deep. I am also considering raiseing the rps 2 inches and keeping the same tank, i would net the 2 inches in the box depth and wouldn't have to fork out another 120 on tanks.Too many options.I'll take a bunch of picturs when i get the hatches and post.
froberts	posted 02-26-2014 08:17 PM ET (US)             Installed the glove box and raised the rps 2 inches higher. I built a box under the seat that is 5 inches deep and 32.5 long. Just waiting on the th marine 1330 hatch to cut out the hole. Will post pictures when finished.

Ferdinando	posted 02-28-2014 03:23 PM ET (US)             One little piece of advise on the R P S is to seal the bottom inside and out with white silicone thus preventing water intrusion and avoiding mildew I did this together with Dri Deck and the box stays 100% dry!

froberts	posted 03-09-2014 07:56 AM ET (US)             Heres a picture of the 2 inch base. I used 1 inch PVC board from lowes (5 1/2 x 10 x 1 inch) it cost 30 dollars. Would have rather used starboard, but to make the base with starboard would have cost me 100 dollars. Put it down with 3m 5200 and had to buy 3 inch bolts.
