On my 1988 15 SS one of the drain tubes in the splash well has the inside half missing. The end on the outside of the transom is fine but the other end is just the hole. How is the best way to repair this? |

This is an easy repair. I describe the process here: |

Thanks for the infor. Guess I was looking for an easier fix using the good piece that is already there. |

There is only one piece. Yours has corroded in half and should be replaced. |

Here is a detailed step by step with extensive photo documentation of the process. I created this last year since most of Derf's picture links are dead in the old thread Tom linked to. In this thread you should find what you need.... |

Jeff's fine thread is mentioned in, and hyper-linked to, in the hypertext of my FAQ answer, and, as noted, contains a great number of illustrations of the method. The thread mentioned by Tom, although it is a very long, rambling, somewhat hard to read, disconnected thread, and most of image links links mentioned are dead and no longer work, is also mentioned and hyper-linked in the FAQ I wrote. I have authored all of the FAQ answers, and all are based on the many fine prior discussions and shared experiences of many people. Jeff--I want to express my appreciation, and I am sure the collective appreciation of many readers, for taking the time to photograph and document your repair of a drain tube, and to write about it in such a lucid, compact, and well-organized manner. I think your narrative, photographs, and organization of the information in your article is outstanding, and provides a fantastic resource which encompasses the whole process--that is why I have mentioned it in the FAQ. I think we should further collaborate on the photo-image hosting, as I would like to preserve those images. I will be in touch with you (via email). I want to avoid the problem (as you note) in other discussions where important information contained in images has been lost when the images are no longer posted on-line by the person who provided them. I have to say that it has been a goal of mine, since 1994 when the website first went on-line, to preserve information and to keep it at the same URL, so that it can be found and read years after it was first written. After 20-years I have done the best I can to keep every URL the same, to not move information around so old links result in 404-NOT FOUND errors, and to preserve information content related to boating. As for snippy comments among the participants, these are not particularly archival in their storage. |

Many thanks to John W. for alerting me a few days ago via a most polite email that a few of the part numbers in the FAQ were no longer current in the suppliers catalogue. I searched out new part numbers and made hyperlinks to the items to further improve the FAQ. Also, I added some new material mentioned here which was presented for the first time. The answers in the FAQ are constantly being revised when new information is available in order to provide the best, most concise information to readers. |
