I have a question concerning the bow rail on my 1984 Montauk. The connections on several of the T-joints are loose. I'm trying to determine if the original design used self-tapping screws or if the tubing was tapped and a regular screws were used. I found a source (CMI Marine) in the OEM reference section for railing parts. It looks like at least I'll need some replacement screws. Thoughts? Thanks |

Cinegamma, My suggestion is you replace the loose screws(in fact, all the screws) with stainless steel rivets. What a difference! If you ever have to remove/replace, simply drill them out, which is not difficult and relatively quick. Several years ago, I did this to our 13 Super Sport that has an extensive railing. No more rattles, no more shaking, no more loose screws falling out!! Slick! Do a search on this site (and I'll do the same) to get the video on how to do this and the correct drills and rivet size. Borrow, steal, rent, or buy a pneumatic rivet gun (Harbor Freight) had them cheap) I borrowed one from a airplane owner, they always have one. |

cinegamma, Here you go......this is the link that should explain everything. I remember getting a box of rivets online that were stainless steel and fit perfect. Not much money. http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/016099.html Read it thoroughly. Post any questions. |
