Lowrance has announced the release of new software for their HDS GEN-1 series of electronic chart plotter and SONAR devices. This software revision is numbered as version 4.1, and it is recommended for all HDS (GEN-1) devices. One of the improvements in the v4.1 software is the ability to export larger .GPX files. This problem was discussed in Lowrance GPX Export An improvement in the GPX export function will be a very welcomed addition to the HDS system capabilities. |

I obtained the upgrade patch files and applied the upgrade to my HDS-8. I used my MacBook Pro laptop to transfer the files to the SD Memory card. The update utility ran without any problems. I now have the v4.1 operating software on my HDS-8. It will be a while before I will be using it on the boat--probably not until late April or early May. I plan to test the .GPX export function before then. |

To follow-up on this discussion, I have tested the GPX export function with the new v4.1 software and found it works on my very large data set, where before it did not. On this basis I conclude that the problem has been resolved where the export of large data sets to GPX formats would previously cause a system halt and crash. |

The shop that supplied me with my Lowrance HDS 5X recently performed the update. I have used it several times since and found a noticeable improvement in the unit's ability to read the bottom at very deep depths (600 feet). george |
