JimH - Where have I been? I missed both of these sail logs. WELL DONE! Great narrative and great photos. I'm going to have to trailer the "Kelsey J" down there one of these days and sail with you. Imagine, sailing in fresh water and no washdown at the end of the day! North Channel, July 2012. A week cruise around the North Channel in perpetual following seas. Apostle Islands, July 2012. A week in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Thanks. JimP |

Hi Jim--Glad you like the cruise reports. I just got some new pictures for the Apostle Island Cruise from John (from HOLLY MARIE) and I will be adding them in the next few days. I'll let you know when I have updated the pictures. You'll be able to enjoy more Lake Superior cruising delights. |

I have added a dozen new images to the Apostle Island cruise narrative, thanks to some excellent photography by my cruising companions the Raby's. See |

JimH - Fascinating pictures! Thanks for posting the new pictures. I like the fish camp pics. My wife's family used to have a fish camp on the Yukon River that was similar with fish drying racks, smoke house and small bunk house. I was also surprised that you could get up close to the Fresnel lense in the lighthouse. JimP |

Jim - Plan it right, and you might have a whole fleet to be with. And all having local knowledge too. Regards - Don |

That big third-order Fresnel lens is quite impressive. If you notice, I am wearing a green apron in one of the pictures. http://continuouswave.com/sail-logs/apostleIslands2012/images/ Raby_FresnelJimh600x800.jpg This is a new procedure. Before going to the lamp room, everyone has to put on soft cotton aprons in the oil room one floor below. This is done to protect the lens from damage.
