2005's. Can anyone tell me 1st had how the ride is between these two boats. I spent about 15 minutes in a Dauntless last March but it was so cold I forgot how it was.

Didn't you buy the 160 Dauntless? Much less pouroising in the Montauk, and less spray over the bow. I think the ride in the newer Montauks is class-leading.

Hey Sal.

No, I bought a Montauk 170. Got an 05 from a guy in NJ who had 15 hours on her. The boat was mint and the price was right. I was afraid if I passed on it I would spend another 6 months looking for a Dauntless. I did do test ride on a Dauntless in the middle of last march. But to tell you the truth I was so cold after the ride my brain stopped. Anyway, my brother has buddy in FL who is looking to sell his Dauntless 160. Its an 06 with a Merc 115hp 4 stroke. I'm interested in buying the boat IF it has a better ride than my Montauk, if not, no big deal I'll pass.

Feejer, although boat choices are personal, I think you made a great choice. I had the 160 hull. It is probably a real nice lake hull, but too wet in Barnegat Bay for my liking. Best of luck...

We should have a great weekend at the shore!

I keep my boat in North East, MD, I must say I don't miss the salt water at all (except to fish). I had the boat down at the outer banks in August. We rented a home on a canal next to Pirates Cove. I forgot about having to wash the boat down everyday : (

I've had my 160 for 5 seasons now, and I think she's a great boat. I especially think that the 45-gallon internal tank is a big advantage over the 170. I've yet to ride a 170, so I can't compare the ride directly, but they are boats of very similar size and weight -- I can't believe that the ride would be different enough to warrant changing boats. Now, if you want to go to a 190 Nantucket/Outrage, then that's a different story...

I also don't think that it isn't worth the trouble and dollars going from a 170 montauk to a 160 dauntless.

If you go two sizes up, that would make a difference.

I have a Dauntless 160 and I think that it is a great boat. I do wish that Mills Canvas offered as many options for the 160 as they do for the Montauk 170.

Doug, see http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/011127.html for one canvas option on the 160. For the rest of the curtains, you're on your own.
